Cannibalism and extentions to chernarus,

Recommended Posts

Allright, cannibalism.

It should be possible to gut freshly dead survivors. With increasing heartbeat when detected (lower humanity) in order to stack up with food in desperate situations.

It would add a real creepy yet somewhat intense feeling to surviving in the dayz world.

Extentions to chernarus.

ok lets say that making a whole new map is to much work, but what about some community based extentions to the chernarus map, maybe some more woods the north with some bigger towns, military bases, airfields and other types of vehicles. Perhaps like a river that man can cross in to a big city to the north.

idunno just some silly ideas.

whatdouthink?

Any existing Arma 2 maps (official AND community made) can be 'ported' into DayZ in about an hour. You can probably count on this happening, however I would not expect it to happen during the alpha. Keeping everything to a single map during alpha is important to keep things consistent for bug reporting.

Cannibalism is something usually done out of desperation but we know players will simply use it as another reason to kill a player or get a few extra points to their blood.

Cannibalism needs to have a heavy penalty like getting a disease

Example:

"Kuru is an incurable degenerative neurological disorder (brain disease) that was probably transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via cannibalism. Kuru is a Fore word that means 'to shake' People with Kuru tremble and shake"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannibalism

"Kuru is an incurable degenerative neurological disorder that is a type of transmissible spongiform encephalopathy, caused by a prion found in humans.[1] The term "kuru" derives from the Fore word "kuria/guria" ("to shake"),[2] a reference to the body tremors that are a classic symptom of the disease; it is also known among the Fore as the laughing sickness due to the pathologic bursts of laughter people would display when afflicted with the disease. It is now widely accepted that Kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via cannibalism.[3]"

So if DayZ had Cannibalism there could a virus meter/number count of pathogen. When this numbers get to a certain count you start to get Kuru, which you can't cure. the shakes would be every so many minutes but heating human flesh to many times = constant tremors.

This means players would only do this- only when they are actually starving.

@logan that is actually a very good point i have not thought about. there has to be some kind of mechanic to emulate peoples tabu towards eating human flesh. at the same time we could think of the cannibals in the walking dead comic that used that merely as a scare tactic. that is also a mechanic that i think should be implemented, the fact that bandit cab scare away survivors or coherce them to give up loot without violence. like the pirates used the jolly roger back in the day. maybe bandits could like collect survivor ear that they then could hang from they necks or whatever. to show that u are a real badass and should bot be fucked with. i dunno

maybe ears or like carry a survivor severed head that they could then throw at u to scare other players. a non lethal takedown mechanic would add like a new dimension to player interactions. not that i am all against lethal pvp.

It's a coop game. The idea of killing each other is just part of the inhumanity of humanity. Too bad we can't get a list of those who kill others for fun, because they would most likely do the same in real life, and should be delt with before they get too far into society and cause real problems. I've seen the likes of them, they cause most of the problems in the world, and would not be missed for a second on the planet, except by those who think like them.

You only bring up cannibalism because you are curious about it..... You probably ought to go see a shrink.

Oh god don't be so brain-dead and anti-intellectual. What do you think zombies are an expression of? And so what if he is curious? People like you make the world more boring.

Map extensions no. Due to the way it is implemented in the game' date=' missions and mods.

Actually, Rocket is thinking about doing something along the lines of map extension.

Dslyecxi: They have it set up where you can do re-transmission stations, have one radio that'll bounce off relays to get around.

PC Gamer:That seems like a natural fit for Day Z; if there's a radio transmission station at the top of Green Mountain, that becomes a really valuable point, a clan wants to own that spot, they can talk to another point...

Hall: And imagine if we start making maps bigger and connecting more worlds together to an extent, and then radios become important. You get a whole meta-game going on.

Buchta: Yeah. Even protecting this infrastructure. Suddenly you lose a connection, well, what happened to the guys? That's one of the other potential aspects which can be explored, like making safe zones. I can imagine that at some point, we may end up having no zombies, because they'll be extinct...

Hall:: At least on certain servers...

By this he means attaching existing maps together across servers, think in the style of planetside. He does not mean adding terrain to Chernarus, this would mean the entire map would have to be redownloaded specifically for the mod, several gigs, and would no longer be compatible in the same way. This wont happen in the Alpha stage, because of the way the mod is implemented currently. It would be easy to add ready-made maps to other servers, that you can only access by leaving Chernarus across one or more borders, such as the upcoming map for the Czech Armed Forces DLC, the PMC DLC map, and perhaps Takistan (honestly though that will be boring). I think remakes of the original Operation Flashpoint maps - Everon, Koljugev (or whatever), Nogova and 'that other one' are better suited to the mod, and easily ported/updated with new textures + buildings.

Actually, I guess Utes would be easy to add, accessible by boat.
