More server power?

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of renting a dedicated EU server with these specs:

Dell R210 vii

Quad Core Intel® Xeon® E3-1270 4x 3.4 - 3.9 Turbo

8gb Ram

250gb HDD SATA 3

Unlimited bandwidth

Dedicated

Would this be enough for one 50 man server or would i need to stick a ssd in it?

Im fairly interested in knowing what other ppl are using aswell?

You don't need an SSD for an arma server. The biggest resource for the server is CPU. I'd imagine that setup could run 50 players, looks like somebody else did here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=732

I can't guarantee the performance though, never used that processor. So I'd double check with a few others to be safe.

Side question, what speed is the network the box will be on: 10, 100, or 1000?

You can run 3 50 slots on that and still have a bit of resources to spare. HD is close to irrelevant. I wouldn't do 4 as that means 1 server per physical core. You could even bump the player count a bit higher most likely, trial and error on how far you can go...

That's a quad core Sandy Bridge CPU there. Should be completely fine, extremely powerful.

would a dedicated 2.4GHz Quad Xeon® CPU with 4 gb ram be able to run 1 or 2 servers or would the ghz be to low and start problems?

It depends, do you have a model for the Xeon? At 2.4 GHz is could be an old Prestonia Xeon or even a brand new Sandy Bridge-E Xeon.

Ahhh, a Kentsfield.

That's based on the Intel Core architecture.

Basically, consider it an Intel Core 2 Quad (like a QX6600).

Now, based off what I have read on this forum, it should have NO problem hosting a server. In fact, my guess is it could do two, but thee might be pushing it. Best of luck sir!
