Poisoned food / food that has gone bad

Recommended Posts

Why implement something like this? Well...food get bad and who knows how long that can of beans have been laying around. It would add a little bit of realism and could also "encourage" people to hunt and cook their own food instead of loot/kill for it.

The effect: Either the same as bleeding (but much slower) or that you simply get dehydrated really fast and need to drink lots of water.

The twist: Only affects food that has been looted from a corpse - either a dead zombie of from a murder victim. ;)

The point of canned food is that it doesn't go bad at all. At least not for a very, very, very long time (avg of 10 years for most canned foods).

Canned food generally have a shelf life of 1-2 years (high acid fruits and veggies) or 3-5 years (meats and fish). So yes - canned food will go bad especially if the can is dented or haven't been stored properly (too high/low temperature).

And do we really know for how long the Day Z apocalypse have been going on? A year? 10 years?

Maybe the canned food should not go bad, because they are canned for that purpose.. but perhaps the cooked meat should go bad after a few days in the backpack or pocket..
