OldGreg (DayZ) 1 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Hey Guys, Just something I've been thinking about for a little while, that I'd like some opinions on. In DayZ SA, as we all know, loot currently does not respawn until the server restarts. I quote the wiki: Unlike the mod, loot no longer respawns when entering an area; it is now only spawned into the world once upon the start of a server's session and as a result of such there may be variable difficulty in finding items. Now, this said, it can sometimes be very difficult to find items. Often, if a server has not been restarted for a little while, high-traffic areas (Electro, Berezino, Cherno, NE/Balota Airfields, etc...) will all be looted, and it is very difficult to head out into the world of Chernarus with some good gear to set you going. This said, what do people think about the idea of server hopping? In the mod, it was scolded, as it was simply a lazy way of avoiding having to run from loot spawn to loot spawn - but in the mod, where the airfield may be completely empty, is server hopping a little more accepted? It seems silly to expect people to gear up on a single server, when most of it has already been looted. I, myself, do not server hop, nor do I condone it. However, knowing people that do, I have been speaking to them about their acts and felt inclined to gather some opinions on it. So... type away, DayZ forums users! -Old Greg Edited April 3, 2014 by OldGreg
AzrailCross 48 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Plain and simple server hopping will never be an 'alright' way to play the game. It undermines the whole concept of survival, end of story really. While it's in alpha it hardly matters much, though can ruin the experience of many when they get gunned down by fully kited bandits that even when beaten will just server hop for renewed equipment and be back at full force in under an hour. All in all it needs to be stopped, but it's hardly top priority; since loot doesn't respawn it's half understandable and .. yet still not, on the fence I guess. I don't condone it, but the temptation is there at times. Once loot respawning is implemented, it'll drop down on it's own a bit. But I think - at least - when 'controlled zones' are put into the game like Dean talked about it'll probably be the means in which server hopping is entirely disabled. At least in my imagination if you try to hop to a different server you'll automatically be thrown back to one of your choice controlled zones rather than wake up on a potentially loaded full of loot area that you were just at on the server prior. Who knows, that's just my opinion; it needs to go, but it's not important enough to really worry about until the core issue is resolved with loot respawning. Also, they're many other towns/villages to go to than the mentioned above. People need to just walk/jog a little more. :)
Tmar09 19 Posted April 3, 2014 Loot respawn and when you log into a server you are locked to that server for a complete cycle of day/night and server hopping stops. People also server hop when playing hero/bandit role as well as just gearing up, and ghosting in behind foes. Being locked to a server for a cycle alone would stop hopping but without loot respawn would still be a game of getting on a fresh server first, gearing out and waiting in the hot spots for others to come for gear. The implementation of police stations and med centers in multiple places,at least 14 more plus the 2 new cities, will also help out. Mostly some patience on the part of the players to allow the dev team to address the issue IN THIS ALPHA game is needed.
