USEC Command, Dated 01/APR/14.

12 years ago today, members of the Unity Virtual Aviation Community with a common interest in military aviation came together to realise their collective vision: a sister organisation to UVAC to address the growing demand to create simulated military operations in a Flight Sim environment. These pioneering aviators established an organisation which would grow and flourish beyond what they could have imagined. That organisation is the Unity Security Force (USEC).

Under the command of General Dean “Rocket” Hall, the first Chief of Staff (CoS), USEC forged a strong presence in the virtual airline community with over 100 active pilots, and eventually becoming VATSIM’s first fictional VSOA airline.

As popularity grew, USEC Command began to branch into the ground-combat simulation field, adopting Battlefield 2, and later Battlefield 2142 as its official platforms, before making the switch to Bohemia Interactive’s ArmA: Armed Assault. Over the years, different commanders have led the organisation through transitions into ArmA 2, and most recently to our current platform: ArmA 3.

On the occasion of its 12th birthday, the fourth CoS, Brigadier General Chris Cunningham (retired), wished to congratulate USEC on this significant milestone.

"Happy Birthday and well done. USEC certainly is the milsim group that has lasted the years. It’s good to see the community is still strong even through the tough times and the good. By my count there has been 5 different Chief of Staff’s, one of which [Dean] repeated their term twice. The community are the ones that made USEC the unique place it is and it those members that will continue to grow units and the history of the group for many years to come."

Current CoS, Lieutenant Colonel Chad Griffiths, released a statement about his experience within USEC.

“I am extremely fortunate to have been a member of this organisation for the past 5 years”, LTCOL Griffiths said.

“Through this organisation I have forged great friendships with admirable people from around the world and have experienced a greater depth and satisfaction than if I had played ArmA or Flight Simulator X alone.

I would also like to make note of the immense contributions of the Forces’ founders and previous members who have paved the way for our continuing success, allowing us to adapt and overcome the numerous challenges this organisation has surmounted over the past twelve years. I am exceptionally proud to be the Commander of the preeminent Virtual Military and to carry on their legacy.”

The Directorates of Operations and Personnel disclosed the following statistics; over the past 12 years USEC has had 3297 recruits who have participated in 31 Operations and have accumulated 832,876 man hours of recorded game time. This is split between: 320,180 hours across BF2, BF2142 and the ArmA franchise and 512,696 hours across the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise.

Major Arden Marshall, Deputy Chief of Staff wishes to thank previous and current members.

“It’s time to raise a glass and salute the people who have helped us to reach this milestone.” , he said.

“To the people who have held leadership positions, the administration teams managing the website, database and servers, the members who have donated from their own pockets, the members who turn up for missions every week without fail, and to the people who stuck by when things looked uncertain for the future of USEC - we thank you”.

Major Marshall goes on to close with a final message:

“It is due to the immense dedication, hard work and enthusiasm from all of our members which has made us such a significant organisation in the milsim community, and it is because of these members that we can be confident of reaching and surpassing our 15th Anniversary in 3 years time.”
