TastyRemnent 1 Posted June 25, 2012 Imagine yourself in some snowy woods, daylight quickly fading, body temperature already critically low. The only sounds you hear are the crunching and creaking sounds of your footsteps. Realising death is near you sprint too the nearest shack and start a small fire going just to keep yourself warm. You look outside as the snow begins to fall...Basically the premise hear is the ability of certain servers to become snow enviroments. Heatpacks would become of great importance as would shelter and fires. It could also feature new skins which could have the advantage of either decreasing the rate at which you lost heat or as camouflage (you would have to sacrifice one for the other). If your body temperature drops below a certain point you begin to lose blood until eventual death. Having other players in proximity could also decrease the rate at which you cool down and speed up the rate you warm up (like huddling together for warmth). The more players, the larger the benefits. Also other cool features that other, more creative people can think of.Not sure if this idea would work but hey its just a suggestion. Soldier of Failure 14 Posted June 25, 2012 Problem is, the entire map would have to be re-textured for snow. Otherwise itll be "LOLBLIZZARD NO SNOW THO" Also, if a players about to die of cold he could sever hop to a warm sever, warm up and come back.

TastyRemnent 1 Posted June 25, 2012 Impossible.People need to understand how a game works...Thanks for your useful feedback. I was particularly interested in your description of how games work. Not just this game, but all games. I now know why I have never snow in a game before. Thanks again.
Senrain 148 Posted June 25, 2012 Hah, I can imagine having to choose between a guillie suit or a big orange jacket that keeps me warm.

Thanks again.[/quote']Games need textures.Textures take A LOT of time to make (photo-realistic in the case of ArmA2)Adding snow requires that nearly every texture in the game should be "snowified".Did you think of all the textures that would need to be changed? My point in saying " how games work " is that you can't just suggest something that would require the entire map to be drastically changed. It's just impossible or it would take so much time and effort ( and money btw ). The same goes for the people who want all the buildings to be enter-able. If they aren't designed for that in the first place, the map should be changed drastically (redesigning all buildings). Again, it would take A LOT of time and money. (Mostly the existing textures will be edited and not completly new created. That saves a lot of time.)Anyway I would love to play a winter scenario where keeping warm is an important point._
Ag3nt Richt3r 19 Posted June 30, 2012 Impossible.People need to understand how a game works...I know this isn't Minecraft, but Notch managed to get "snow accumulation" to work to a certain extent. This idea may not be possible with ArmA II's engine,... but maybe with ArmA III? Another way of approaching it, would be based off the region and date settings of the server. Chicago server in December = Chernarus hit by a blizzard?
jetlinerx 2 Posted June 30, 2012 Your first few sentences, describing the situation was so bone chilling (no pun intended). It was so cool to be honest, making me support this idea 100% no matter how much work we need to put into it...Unfortunately, I am throwing my money at the screen, and nothing is happening...
