reem 14 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Hey guys I've quite alot of Ideas that can promote the game to his limits. 1# Same Buildings every area - I dont realy know how to explain you this but the all buildings looks the same which make the game experiance abit boring.for exemple : The airfields - they have the same buildings and unrealted buildings to airfields areas.... Jails..? why airfields should have jails in it?and especialy if there are few airfields and they all looks the same.same for the Comunication towerCom tower - same its need to be changed drasticly , If you ever played Arma 3 breaking point or what ever you will see the airport made really realllly good I means its looks the same like real life. especialy the Com tower ( ATC / ACT ) there is really little thing that might not provoke you all ( Im pretty sure about that ) but in the com tower there are windows and the windows are already broken and when you shoot them they always playing sound of breaking glasses.. and in the begining the windows should be like normal windows ( not broken windows ).. and then if you shot them they should brake... this meant for all windows/glasses objects in the game.. I know its really not going to bother everyone but thats really going to add some good experiance in the game.Anyways every airfield shoukd have his own look.. not the same always and the buildings should be changed because every airfield im going I feel like im in the same on over and over again and it makes me feel like the map is quite small D:.. 2#parts of map should be connectable,,,Instead of make of map like zoo-.- you should make ripped papers that you can find his other parts and make a full map... 3#Ragdol - necessery I do believe its coming with the pyshics.. If Im not wrong ragdol is familier with pyshics.. 4# Instead of making a whole new map you can just expened drasticly the map like make huge ilands and etc* - If your going to make a new map just do not place it in damn russia.. would be cool if you just going to place it in desert place or something else Im sick of seeing treess al the time :D. 5# Instead of actually increase the speed of the zombies... you just cold make a new zombie model.. ( a big one maybe mutation or even fat large zombie ) that actually can hurt us and he wont die in one single shot.. or a fireaxe... 6# Loot on zombies - I think loot on zombies would be cool .there is canvas pants that looks pretty much ruined like zombie wear them.. so maybe you can take off the pants of the zombie and it will be canvas pants :Dand some other stuff that can be from zombies pockets like batterys and etc.. 7#Radition - Radition would be cool addition for dayz.. Radition would be nice if it would be added into chernogorsk people will actually be more carfull going there , and the gassmask will have an important role in dayz 8#remake the " Fully geared " Items.. - I mean guys with full gear always looks like they are the military...I think you need to remake the clothes Its looks ridicloues I still feel like its Arma everyone is damn green... just make it more survival game * backpacks , I dont know why the backpacks are really ridicloues.. I mean mountion backpack for exemple.. its looks to much clean and unsurvival realted. 9# Ghilie suit ( or what ever its called ) - I think ghiliesuit shouldn't be found in any military base or anywhere else.. you actually need to hand build it.. you probably asking how..?simple as that there are thousands of bushes and trees in the game.. now think by yourself :D... you maybe can implement to the game glue and some other tools which can help you build your own ghilie suit.but I hope it wont look like arma.. because you actually looked like a damn tree that was ridicloues.. I mean dont go to much with it overghilie.. its should cover your body but not to much.. 10# Spawn places , I think spawn places shouldn't be only at the coast and etc.. they could be in one of the buldings of cherno on a radnom floor...or anyother house inside a small village.. aesopsystems 0 Posted June 12, 2014 I had an idea that I saw implemented in the Unity Engine a long time ago. . . I believe it will allow a faster FPS for users within cities and throughout the world. I can't remember the terminology for it as I viewed it about 4 years ago but I think it would improve lag on lower-end computers greatly. Keep in mind, this is a suggestions and to implement this may take a long time as I'm not sure how they have set up their 3d objs and skinning nor do I know the language it is built on but here goes . . . A 3d model is skinned usually with mip-maps and images to make the object look realistic as opposed to the generic grey color usually shown. However a lot of this image loading and skinning can be resource heavy especially with so many different images within DayZ (which I love for its diversity) being loaded as the player progresses through the world. I recognize that textures are sometimes dropped in-game like [texture.bmp, texture.png] could not be retrieved and I believe it may have to do with a stackoverflow or memoryoverflow exception within the code; failing because it has already used more resources than it can handle to load the image. Here is where I forget the terminology but the system to which I'm referring used a point-of-view (pov) based image loading technique to only load the textures the player visually sees. In example, I'm in the middle of the wooods and viewing the trees, but only the images for the front of the trees are shown to me cutting down on the amount of image loading time and increasing fps. Another example, I'm in a building and cannot see much of the outside world, only load the images that are within my visual window. I believe this would help greatly with speed issues. I recently tried this out in 2d game and it worked very well. An idea of how to approach this would be to use simple calculus and the unit circle. Basically I have my players field-of-view which extends from one point (my eyes) to two points in the distance, the right side of my screen and the left. Here's an implementation written in java to extend a point to another point in the distance. Which could be used to get an end point for zooming or field-of-vision config changes. public Point extend_point(int ext, double cur_rotation){// added 90 because we are pointing down, extension// is multiplied by the cos and added to whatever current x valuefloat sx = (float) (Math.cos(Math.toRadians(cur_rotation + 90)) * ext) + x; // ext is multiplied by the sin of the cur rotation and added to the current yfloat sy = (float) (Math.sin(Math.toRadians(cur_rotation + 90)) * ext) + y;return new Point(sx, sy);} This can be used from the point I'm looking from, (the origin) and extend down the left and right sides creating a cone of vision. Now within this cone of vision you can set up simple collision detection on whether an object is colliding with the bounds of the cone. if the object is past or within the right vector or left vector created by the visual extension of the point then populate an image to it. If it is not leave it unloaded or remove the image completely. This doesn't even have to be updated on each screen update as that would be slow but instead could be called initially when the player rotates or refreshed every 500ms or second. Also you can load an image on something the player sees and if its already loaded use a boolean statement to not load it again. Also, does anyone know what language this is written in? The server-client relationship is pretty good so I'm assuming its python or c because they are solid. Also wondering if the client-sever is udp or tcp, I'm again assuming its tcp with a non-blocking protocol. Just an idea I would like to see added. The cone you're describing is actually used already to determine what is rendered in realtime by the video card. It's apparent that you have some coding experience, and it seems even some game programming experience. For a 2d game witih many small textures these ideas work pretty well, but think about the 3d world and what your optimization would mean for some particular situations: Example: I'm walking out of a small city. I can only see maybe 1 building and some trees, so only those textures are loaded. I hear a zombie behind me so I spin around. As I spin around I can see dozens of building, each with many textures that need to be loaded, not to mention the zombies/players/objects/etc. This is why games like this with long view distances load a _ton_ of stuff into memory - basically anything that a player _could_ look at from a particular location is loaded before they look at it. You never know what the player will do from one moment to the next, and it takes time for those textures to load. I, for one, hate to bring up my binocs only to have to wait for the textures 600m away from me to load slowly into existence. Games like this generally reuse the same textures and models a lot to reduce memory usage. They also use multiple texture/model qualities for different ranges. There's so much optimization it's ridiculous, and it gets better all the time. Have you thought about working for a company like Bohemia? It sounds like you would enjoy this type of work. I'm actually an Electrical Engineer with a ton of 3d simulation experience, but I always liked fiddling with video game code.
