Barricading on a hive server architecture.

Recommended Posts

I read a reply on one of the pending changelog posts, and a guy brought up a point that i thought was interesting.

He was breaching the subject of barricades in DayZ and specifically how it would work on this hive server architecture, where your character will persist, but every server is different.

When the time comes for base creating (in a long time) his point was basically that no base would ever be remotely secure, and maybe that`s by design. Obviously we don`t want impenetrable bases, but my point is this. What stops a player from spotting a base on one server, log out and join another, enter the vicinity of the base´ location and log back in. Does that not seem extremely cheesy and/or limiting to the game play that bases offer, i`m not saying that i would want to spend all my time building massive impenetrable bases, but i wouldn't mind playing around with it. Anyways i hope Bohemia has a plan, but i was just wondering if anyone else had any thoughts?

Yeah, this is why they can't have hive servers with characters logging in where they logged out.

I used to write walls of text outlining this problem. Not sure what they're going to do with regard to this. I've always supported resetting character locations to the coast when server swapping (which would solve a multitude of problems). Or, having each server be a private hive. There are a lot of ways to discourage the problem, still unsure as to the right one.

Now that is very interesting. I'm sure there would be some kind of feature where you couldn't spawn into someone else's base though.

Seems like a problem to me. It would suck if you could just use servers to hop into peoples bases. Other are going to have to find a way to stop this happening, or else base building will be pointless. Perhaps if you put a door on the structure, no one can log in inside except those who access the door? Just a thought.

But what if they allow us to barricade existing houses? That's the impression I got when they announced "barricading" rather than "construction/base-building".

That's why for true persistence I like the private server based solutions. I know it's been done before (Epoch, Origins) but it just simply works. I'm not real sure what they could do to countermeasure that kind of BS, but they may come up with something!
