Dead Rising did this a lot with the various items.(Propane tanks, extinguishers, oxygen tanks, etc) not saying we should turn it into dead rising, but it's fun and effective.

Also, I've seen CHKilroy and other ShackTactical guys do this in some of their youtube videos, so the possibility exists, has anyone tried it in DayZ?

rigging a jerry can could be an alternative. finding a certain item you could conbine with a jerry can thats `activates`it letting being fired upon

It would have to be a ball of fire, and fire really wouldnt do much too a zombie. I doubt any players would fall for such a trap.

Shooting a jerry can would puncture holes in it, not ignite the fuel. It's been proven to be a myth not just by the Mythbusters, but by many many others. Google it.

On the other hand, rigging it to blow IS an option.

For any liquid to become explosive, or flammable for that matter, it must first reach a certain air to "fuel" ratio, if this ratio is never reached then ignition cannot take place.

You're saying if I drop a burning road flare beside a gas can and then fire a hole into the can it won't start a fire?

I know firing a bullet into a gas tank isn't going to always start a fire, but put an ignition source beside it and BAM!

Alternatively, you could put some jerrycans around a sachel charge to make it a more firey explosion?

My problem with this idea is that it'd only be useful for PvP, as there's only one thing worse than zombies, and that's flaming zombies.

Even then, if Jerry Cans could be used as weapons, players would just avoid them unless they were necessary. I understand that it'd be a cool feature to blow them up with explosives, but I feel that it's a bit too much effort for such a rare situation.

I understand DayZ is a realistic zombie experience but sometimes you can sacrifice realism for some fun. Most people think it would be realistic if they did explode anyways :).

I agree this would be a nice feature but it should not be a priority other important ideas should be done instead.

If they implemented a throw feature, the jerry can bomb(rigged with flare) could be thrown down onto a hoard of zombies from a rooftop. I've seen quiet a few survivors stuck on rooftops with zombies aggro'd, so I wouldn't say this can only be used rarely in PVP.

I'd expect the infected to die when lit on fire, after all they were human at one time. Bullet to the foot/finger will kill em, why not fire?

Edit: actually forget the foot/finger stuff, I hate when people use other "bugs" for their own reasons.
