My first experience with DayZ Standalone

So after a lengthy two installs(first install didn't work) and a lot of confusion and annoyance over the purchase because apparently I couldn't buy it if I had it preloaded on my comp(brother had bought it earlier). But anyway, my first experience. I spawn near Elektro. Awesome. I charge in, and am chased by zombies. I run into the hospital, zombies still attacking from the first floor. I climb up stairs, still being attacked, see a guy. He tells me to back away, I say I'm friendly, a new spawn etc. etc. So he says there's an axe on the ground, great, I take it, he kills the zombie, we never see each other again. I start looting, and a few houses in, I find an SKS. Awesome. I loot the firehouses, find ammo, then head northish. I find another town, stay in it an hour or so, then decide, hey, I'll head back to Elektro. I make what I think is my way there, but is really far off. So I get to a town, kill zombies, leave, rejoin a few hours later. And I break my legs. Magically. That's pre-alpha for you. I think I'm close to Elektro, but in reality, I got no idea where I am. After a long crawl, I decide, screw this, I'm going to suicide, jump into the ocean. I do it, die, and rejoin a server, thinking I'd get a new spawn, since apparently I can't respawn from menu. So I rejoin.

 

But nope, you get to live. So now I'm making the crawl out of the ocean, dying 5 seconds in and having to repeat the process. I'd love some help, though something tells me that's unlikely.

 

Anyway, that's my story, I'll probably be spending, oh, 8 hours crawling to Elektro, and then I'll get killed by a zombie or something stupid. I mentioned I broke my legs, right?

 

I'll probably just make a new character. lol.

when your dead, you should be able to hit ESC and then see the option to respawn. if you dont see a screen saying "you are dead" then your not dead.

Best would be to le yourself just get killed by zombies. Let'em come and feast on your broken body. You can respawn as a new character as soon as you are unconscious. The message "If you decide to respawn it will kill your current charcter." is exactly what you want.

If you are actually killed by the zombies, all the better, you should respawn via a timer in about 30 seconds. Once the "You are dead message" shows up, wait for a few seconds until\ the respawning message shows up

pro tip,

if in a big town like elektro...crawl to a tall building or structure with a ladder. (crane, school, warehouse)

 

CLIMB the fucking ladder and jump off...problem solved.
