Infection and the Infected. How to make the Infected more of a threat

Recommended Posts

Currently we know that the infected in DayZ will be updated and made more dangerous. By this I believe they will be making them faster and deal more damage which will be great. I feel that though the infected are in smaller hordes they should make you have that "Oh s***"  response if you are spotted. (Think of 28 Days later or Left 4 Dead  infected)

However because infected that kill you in just a few hits would be rage inducing (and because having infected tackle you and rip  you apart would be difficult to implement) my suggestion is:

that in exchange for very high damage, every hit the infected get on you should have a slight chance to pseudo-infect you ,when diseases are implemented, to help balance making infected just do insane direct damage. By pseudo-infect  I mean there will be a chance you will get the infection that has caused the apocalypse and infected HOWEVER, because the survivors in DayZ are immune to becoming an infected this suggestion will only make your player very sick when infected. What I am suggesting is to make the player only partly immune to the infection meaning that they can get infected but the infection will only make the player very sick and unless treated would cause the player to succumb to a nasty fever and die after several hours. This of course will be curable as long as you can get anti-biotics.

The infected need to be a threat to both bambis and decked out players. This suggestion would make any direct contact (melee contact) with the infected more dangerous. If infected see you, you better be ready to gun them down quickly or get out of there because fighting an infected horde with melee should be a very high risk (and in reality you wouldn't be able to take on a group of hyped up infected alone in melee and get away completely unscathed).

IMO it would just be annoying if there were the same amount of zombies in the future but they would be just more dangerous, that means they would annoy me even more. Now if I'm in combat and a zombie comes I'm like: get out of here zombie, you're ruining this. And after the gun fight I realize that the zombies are what I'm supposed to be scared of.

I'd want there to be 1000x times more zombies so CO-OP would get a whole new meaning. If there were the same amount of zombies I could just shoot them my self and they wouldn't be a threat.

/Edit sorry I forgot tho mention I really like the infection idea and I'm pretty sure that they will at some point add something like it.

I was thinking about the same idea

Evry time a Zed will hit you there's a chance that you can become disased in the next minutes.

Something like 20% when they hit you the first time and a +10% incrase evry hit you get after the first, so a zed taht will hit you 3 time has 20% + 30% + 40% canche to infect you wiht the virus.

After that the disase must have some visual indicator like a green and blurry wiev + vomit and lose of temperature that will bring you very slowly to death, using painkillers, antibiotics and morphyne can slow the infection and/or symptoms but the only useful cure may be reach one hospital where you can do some kind of blood cleanse whit a specific machinery. That will automatically create a sort of time objective for players. Hospital may become strategic like military base and someone may try to defend them.

If one of your group get the infection will be really fun run to the near hospital trying to save him and mybe be forced to fight to reach the only thing that can save his life

ps. sorry for my bad english :P

The search function doesn't work well and I find people who say "use the search function moron" to exaggerate but come on, it doesn't come to your mind that other people might have though of something as obvious as making the virus spread?!

Today, there has been more than 5 topics around hygiene, and sickness so there is no need to use the search function for this.

Also, don't go around saying the devs will reproduce the same problems the mod had: zombies won't go faster, they said it twenty times as they put a whole bunch of effort on path-finding and realism. They don't want to make them stronger either because they made their objective quiet clear to make the game realistic, so they are against making zombies, super-humans.

So now, here is a copy paste of one of my posts today expalining the system involving some objects you have already seen in game:

"You will need disinfecting equipment to avoid getting infected with the virus (with disinfectant spray, pure alcohol, ...) and cleaning water to drink it (with purifying tablets). You will need to clean anything that comes in contact with a zombie during melee fight to avoid contamination. So if he hits you, you'll have to clean your clothes with disinfectant spray as well as the weapon you used to kill him with before opening a can of beans. You will also need to but pure alcohol on the bandages you will apply to your wounds."

Go out and get your facts straight before posting something as obvious as this please
