in game currency? or trade system?

Recommended Posts

im just wondering what you guys would think if this game had some kind of in game currency when it gets thousands of more items guns..ect  like some mmo's or just a trade system ...would it be a bad thing and ruin the game or good......i guess just dropping stuff on the ground and having someone picking it up is pretty much the same tho

I don't mean to say NO, but DayZ is supposed to be player-controlled. Because of this, making an in-game system of currency/trading would break that rule, If you need to trade, you can exchange items with players but no need to have a system for that. Of course it's extremely dangeours to meet people and drop your stuff but hey, that's the part of fun. ;)

Why would I give up my beans for some money?

I cant eat the money, cant kill with it, etc.

The only trading should be bartering, I'll give you two cans of beans for ten 22's. Stuff like that.

I believe ammo was supposed to be used as a form of currency in the concepts for standalone, never really worked out that way though.

I don't think ingame currency has no place in this game. I don't want to go around picking bottle caps or something, but I think that pristine ammo could be used as a sort of unofficial currency between players. Sort of like in the Metro 2033. Also regular item exchange "I'll give you two cokes for that can of beans" would be good.

To support these we definetly need a "trading system" or something that would make giving items to other players or exchange items with other players easier. The current dropping items on the ground is just silly.

I agree to some extent, but that is the part of realism. You deliver the goods, to the buyer, just like a FedEx man delivers a package to your door. Now, I am also in favor of having an "automatic" way of trading, where "trust" is not needed; the system makes changes between player A to player B, but that would require some sort of a management system to be provided.

Not really. I agree with the majority of comments arguing that you trade what you have, for what you want. Ex: Food, drinks, ammo, guns, etc. Once, I traded with two guys for food ( for my starving friends ), and gave up my FNX with some ammo.

It doesn't have to be called trading system. Just make a way where you could give, or rather hand over, stuff to other players more easily. In real life when I hand my friend a drink or something, I don't throw it on the ground and then make them pick it up from down there.

we dont need money and we dont need a trade system

we need a real market where people must meet to exchange stuff. like 5 packs of crispys for a fn magazine ... something like that

and a blackboard at the church in cherno, where people can leave messages of what they need and what they want to give for it in exchange.

i would trade a worn LRS in exchnange for a pristine leather jacket.

than u could leave the time when u will show up again OR even better the frequency of ur walkie talkie so that the business can be done.

Jeah i know that it will atrackt a lot of snipers and bandits But ... no risk no fun. im not running arround chenarus because i booked a all in vacation.

Yeah I am down for a system of trade. Let's base it on two things.

1. Resources ( Items, loot)

2. Negotiation ( Interaction with other players, in game, forums etc)

And nothing else. No monetary system. No currency. No semblance of a prior existing civilisation.

Also, I really like the idea of the blackboard. In concept, an expansion of the pen and paper we currently have would facilitate much more creative ways for players to interact, with trade being chief amongst them.

I'd love a trade interface but the idea of a currency being used instead of a barter system in DayZ is not remotely realistic.

I already tried this thread a while back :P It seems currency or a point system is not something people really want to implement. I've personally been trading items based on their rarity. Ammo is also a great trading chip. I usually get requests for rice/beans or ammo. So if you run across this stuff, try to save it. Though, ammo is increasing in type as a lot more guns have been released since alpha first started, so i'd recommend getting an ammo crate. When it comes down to it, people will want to trade for whatever they are lacking, but I've found that ammo and food are always welcome.

I am sorry, I misread your last comment. Yes, I fully agree to this. You ought to be able to put this into their hands, or at the least, into an available slot in their inventory.

There is a trade system already. It's called 'communication'. Here's how it works.

1) Player A approaches Player B

2) After determining Player B will most likely not KOS, Player A approaches and asks for an item, while offering up something he has

3) Player B has the item requested and needs the item offered

4) A trade takes place

Boom, instant trade system.
