Help needed with DayZ Commander/DayZ instalation (Steam)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just had a couple of quick questions about DayZ Commander and DayZ itself, and I was hoping that someone could help me answer them. I read this article about the installation and running of DayZ: http://walkingdead-dayz.enjin.com/forum/m/14927138/viewthread/11096419-how-to-get-dayz-working-fix-most-issues-video-setting-tips-frame-rate-compiled-here   but unluckily it creates more questions on my part then it answers.

1.  How important is it to install and run Arma II OA Beta before I download DayZ Commander/DayZ and do I have to keep it installed later after running it? Also is it possible to download Arma II OA Beta onto another disc (disc C has Arma II, Arma II OA, and DayZ, but its running out of space and I really want to save it from overcrowding, while my disc D has huge amounts of space)?

2.  As hinted above, I already have the Steam version of DayZ installed on my pc (installed it before I ran Arma II and Arma II OA for the first time). Will this be a problem, and should I remove it?

3.  Is it possible to download DayZ Commander onto a different disc (disc C has the games, but disc D has the space) then the one I have DayZ/Arma II/Arma II OA on, and where will any updates/community maps be stored, namely in DayZ Commander folder, or in Arma II OA folder?

4.  Taking the above questions into consideration, would you recommend for me to move my Arma II + Arma II OA + DayZ to my D disc, and if so, can I just copy over my "SteamApps" folder from one disc to another (I have steam on D, but I also have a library on C), or will this cause problems, and should I do a clean install, (uninstall Arma II, Arma II OA, DayZ, and install it again onto a different disc)?

This has turned out to be a long list, but I hope that it won't be too much trouble for anyone to answer it, since I tried to outline my situation as best I could. Please keep in mind, that I have zero to none experience with moding, so some of these questions might seem fundamental to you, but not to me. Also, is the "direct download" link for installing DayZ Commander, from the site I provided, safe? I hope you understand my caution, because everywhere I go to download it, I read posts screaming "ITS A VIRUS".

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If you guys know any good sources/forums for such information, could you please include that information?

If you're talking about DayZ (not DayZ Mod) then you don't need DayZ Commander, Six Launcher, ArmA II, Operation Arrowhead or anything like that.

If you're talking about DayZ mod install ArmA II and OA, then DayZ Commander if you want to use it for a server browser.
