Got hit by a magical zombie?

So yesterday i picked up a badly damaged Blue Press Vest in the Svetlyorsk police station.  Some hours later i joined a server wich i got kicked from (there are more NO JOIN = KICK servers then the leaves of a friggin' tree) and thus i joined another server and had to wait 300 seconds, i alt-tabbed to watch something on YT. When i got back i already had spawned in and a zombie was having a good time with my avatar. I ran away and checked my inventory for damage to items and clothing and noticed my vest was pristine. Is this a bug? Or what happened?
