Food consumption affecting the body; determined by nutrition and diet.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, TIC here and I wanted to suggest a way that we can be able to determine our strength and well-being from what we consume and how it could benefit us or how it could affect us in a negative way.

Advisory: This topic will be edited when new consumables come in, I hope to see more varieties such as fruits and vegetables, energy drinks, sugary treats and more.

The Rundown -- Future character progress based on item consumption, fitness/diet and problematics

  • How canned goods could benefit and cause issues in means of chemicals and safety from pathogens of bacteria.
  • Storage containers should have sanitation purposes which means backpacks, bags, cases and such can be in stages of clean and dirty. Methods for cleansing should be advised.
  • Creating a time table on when power or water works would shut off over time: This could be determined by a configured server time.
  • Proper conditions other than cleaning in means by temperature could increase and decrease risks.
  • Expanding food categories that would be represented in the real world: Add in perishable products
  • Creating problems and solutions to things that could harm our character's performance based on nutrition and diet.
  • An ability to be able to read nutrition labels that are displayed on food item contents: Bagged snacks, canned goods.
  • Items becoming affected by food-borne bacteria due to the lack of refrigeration and cross-contamination if close to other contents

CANNED/BOTTLED: Sodas - How it affects us

(Warning; spoilers will display large images)

Opening this will show you a brief image and description of Pipsi

Here's a great example below

(Don't mind the kidney stone portion where it says race and gender, leaving it equal is better for gameplay experience)

How canned items be helpful

  • Highly unlikely of receiving food-borne pathogens if they are unopened.
  • Leaving them opened could increase the rate of canned goods becoming perishable over time.
  • With the new physics coming in, we'd see them being used to cause distractions if thrown.

Crafting potential

Sound alarms - Tripwires

farming trowel

sealing your favorite snacks

creating candles

catching water(must be held in hand)

The possibilities are endless..

EXERCISING - Endurance, Muscle Growth, Stretching prior to physical means

Opening the spoiler below will display of a comparison between someone prepared and not prepared while running.

Note: Running is the most used type of movement in DayZ.

running-trained-vs-untrained.jpg

What we should be able to see and do in the future of DayZ.

  • I'd like to be see an option of stretching ourselves so we will have a lower risk of becoming hurt from a physical action.
  • Lifting and carrying heavy items could create stronger individuals; in DayZ, I'd like to be able to fend off against a fair amount of zombies thanks to exercising.
  • Becoming overburdened by the limit of items we are carrying or being able to use them as resistance training (walking up a hill slowly may increase overall endurance and cardio)
  • Proper diet and nourishment will have an ability create that character to become in an appropriate state of health to overcome physical demands.
  • Malnourished players are more likely to become weaker.. This means harming players would be less of an issue(such as knocking someone out in 1 punch, it'd take about 5-6 hits in severe malnourished states)
  • Creating more visual/audio cues determined by our physical state, impaired awareness and breathing. (Rapid breathing after running for a long duration, could be a sign of a heart attack)
  • Following the bullet above, we should be able to control our breathing. This way, it could reduce the chances of heart attacks and calm ourselves down.

As a follow-up, I'd like to give special thanks to the following below..

Sure, sounds good for  any hardcore fans of survival.

Personally I would never be bothered with it. Watching your diet and exercising in a pc game? I'd rather do that in rl - at least I'd get clear benefits.

If it gets properly implemented I could see killing myself every time my character gets really weak and unhealthy rather than having to waste my time exercising, eating healthy and hope that some bug won't kill me and all my effort will be gone.

this should be a feature in the game but nothing that is too restrictive, its important to have this in the game, but at the same time you dont want to be playing the game for the purpose of having a fit character... I know I dont, but if you drive from town to town all the time and eat nothing but beans that should have affects!

You should also be weaker without proper foods, but again it shouldn't subtract from the game being fun, as at the end of the day thats the point, to have fun..

Good topic, hope this gets into the beta or final version.

I'm not quite sure if I like this.

No survivor would face the risk of getting overweight even if he only drinks Pipsis and eats tuna days/ weeks considerung the fact how much we run with all that garbage we carry around. The said effects are long-term-effects and most likely would happen years after that unhealthy lifestyle and by that time we would have been shot multiple times already anyways...

And problems with your teeth? There ain't any toothbrushes in the game (yet) so there wouldn't even be a way to counter too much pipsis.

I appreciate your idea and how you've thought it through and as much as I love realism:

the focus should be on survival horror in a post-apocalyptic environment and I guess no survivor would give a rats ass about only getting vegetables from organic farms, meat from happy tunas or mineral water from some fancy well in the french alps. You find it, you consume it and you actually would be pretty lucky if you will survive that long that you can show symptoms of malnourishment in the first place. Neither would someone bother with exercising, you simply would be too busy with trying to stay alive.

/edit:

Again: as much as I love a certain amount of realism...I wanna play a survival horror game with a fair amount of pvp and action and really don't wanna play a daily-routine-simulator. If I want to exercise I rather turn off the computer and go to the gym than I do virtual exercises with my character. :(

Yup, have your character fart a lot ^^

No but seriously, devs said they where gonna add side effects to drinking too many sodas, they are obviously going to add a few elements concerning your nutrition, and physical condition but this is a game where you don't survive long enough to have to worry about getting fat

Honestly, they should add these features to "Extreme DayZ" just make a new mode with these features. HOWEVER: in my personal opinion, The developers should focus on the features that were in the original dayz mod. Such as camping tents and more guns, before such things are added into the game.
