My most productive post yet about improving Zombies and game

Recommended Posts

Normally, I don't offer productive ideas.   But today after being reminded that respawning zombies might be added to game, I had the best idea that will balance the idea of adding more of a challenge, but having realism instead of ghosting zombies that will spawn out of thin air in an area or room you just fucking checked.

Dear Dayz Team.   If you are going to add Zombies that still glitch through walls, please, please, for the sake of not making the game more fake.....

Start each server with a larger amount of unanimated (dead) zombies on the ground in various spots around the map, and when you want the game to spawn more walking (live) zombies,  have those zombies "wake up"

otherwise, how fucking fake is it going to be that our zombies who are not even fixed yet will appear out of thin air perhaps in front of your face.

Is this a japanese arcade shooter or do we want realism?

Problem is server load item numbers since the laying zombies would be counted in that too.  Otherwise nice idea.

The zombie system is a work in progress, they are already respawning on experimental in a very early stage of the feature. Hope fully this is added to stable tomorrow as well.

From what i have seen they respawn out of your line of sight so far mostly, sometimes they respawn invisible too which is fun :D

But couldn't a good programmer team find a way to make the "dead" zombies on ground just artwork of the map and only when it's time for some of them to "wake up" they are then part of the server load?

I know it can be done.  It's bad ass and would 100% help with the immersion of the game that Dean would have wanted.   But we are ing fucking sold out.   So it's getting faker and faker.

Would have wanted? He still does want it.

Enough of this "rockets leaving he sold us out, hes fucking off with 30 million dollars!" BULLSHIT! Please! Rocket isnt leaving until the game is in beta, calm your tits and see what the dev team come up with for zombies in the coming months.

You mean like invisible then when they need to spawn, wake them up? Or you want only specific spawn points for zombies that you can see?

At least you tried to be productive.

the "zombies" in the game are not undead, they are just infected people.

Current zombies = temporary

Current zombie respawn system = temporary

Amount of optimization left to do = truckloads

This is absolutely correct. Further, he said he'd stick around until they didn't need him and that he only believes this will be beta. So he may even be around in beta should issues still be there that require his attention.

Edit: For clarity!

Even this isn't quite accurate. He said he'd stick around until they didn't need him and that he believes this will be beta.

You quoted me to repeat what i wrote? Thanks... i guess?

I've been playing the experimental for hours on end and I've only had a zombie spawn in my line of sight once or twice at most, and, even then, it's been off in the distance. Sure, there's probably a better way to do this, but, as it is right now, it's pretty damned effective, especially with their newfound agility! My friend broke his leg at the construction site west of Vybor and I had to go off to find morphine. I got my ass handed to me by zombies in the surrounding towns. Went through all of my damned rags patching myself up. A couple of weeks ago, I'd have just konked a few on the head and went about my business. Now it's pretty intense (especially at night)!

Carreer advice: become a politician, you'll fit right in.

OT: It's a nice idea, but I can imagine it would take a toll on performance (they still have to be rendered even if they're inanimate). Better is to have a proximity check and make sure the Z's respawn X-meters away from players so you won't notice them popping in existence and break your immersion.

Before I start to troll: It is not a bad idea. So, thanks for sharing, even if the Suggestion forum would have been better for that.

But as CrashBoomK put it in one sentence: Server load. Every object counts. And you can't litter  100000 dead bodies on the ground, because, well, then you would have a)no loot b)only one player with 2 frames per minute which would result in c) a very soon dead char.

So, enough productivity, on we go:

But today after being reminded that respawning zombies might be added to game,

"might"? Not been to experimental much, hm? :)

Is this a japanese arcade shooter or do we want realism?

Hm. looking at the female character models: nope, not japanese. I also haven't seen an tentacles by now...

And "realism" was never a goal. Authenticity was it.

If you are going to add Zombies that still glitch through walls, please, please, for the sake of not making the game more fake.....

A game can not be fake. Well it can if its only like an installer and a loading screen that never ends. Or like the new Rambo game.

Oh, and the zombie wall glitch is going to be extinct.

otherwise, how fucking fake is it going to be that our zombies who are not even fixed yet will appear out of thin air perhaps in front of your face.

They will not. Well they will appear "out of thin air" since a new instance of the Zombieobject is created. So that's magic. But every line in a program is magic, because you create something out of nothing, In fact, Programming is like giving birth to a child. An unthankful, monster-child that wants to ruin your life by destroying everything that you know because it wont work until its too late, and you'll sit hours and hours awake in the night wondering where you went wrong with that thing...

Ahm...where was I?

Ah yeah: But they won't appear "in front of your face", as it has been stated a "sensible respawn system" is being worked on. Well the sensible part, respawning works already.

The axe is a nice touch in the game for defending against zombies but being a axe rambo going into a city is rather boring and takes no challenge to do.  Add massive amounts of zombies that key into any noise and you'll have hours of entertainment...or a quick death depending on your rambo axe skills!!

I'd also suggest that players can't log off on top of places like the fire station or the hospital....when the zombies start grouping around the ladder I can see KOS snipers logging off instead of dealing with the issue that 20 zombies are grouped around the ladder.  This would help reduce snipers in the game by 10 fold!!  Who's going to deal with a bunch of zombies over shooting bambies?   They should set the zombie level at a half dozen for every weapon fired.  You fired 6 times that's 36 zombies surrounding you.    People will need to be very wise on whether it's worth pulling the trigger, unlike it is now where there's really no risk to gun someone down from a distances or even close up....other than if the person has a group playing with him.

No, sorry, I was agreeing with you and saying further, it isn't even determined that beta will be the cut-off if the game still requires his input.

Edit: Also fixed my first post so that it didn't sound like I was disagreeing with you and threw you some beans.
