absynthe2k5 0 Posted March 2, 2014 Greets, Looking into the game for myself and a half dozen friends. I was told to buy the arma 2 and use the mod versus getting the SA. Anyone care to comment on any major differences/benefits or hindrances buying either or may impose on our group? After reading several threads I am noticing after looting an area, said area will not respawn until a server restart? Alos noticing folks hop servers to check on spawns. so this means if one group gets everything apon server restart say in a morning then your sol till next server restart which could be how long? We have been playing rust so the thresat of restarting isn't all that big but not being able to do anything for "x" amount of time because you cleared content does not sound appealing. Anyone that can set me straight on this aspect? How are the hackers at this point have they weeded enough of them out to give new players a fighting chance? I know with valve and cheatpunch I still see tons of obvious hacks, but it is livable atm. I want zombie apoc and some pvp, how does this game compare to say "nether" or "7 days to die" in terms of what you can do, evolving aspects and ofc graphics. Never would have bought Rust had I known Zombies were getting 86'd. Thanks for any advice, opinions.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted March 2, 2014 I personally would say ArmA. Not only do you get the mod, which is currently bounds again of SA, you get ArmA, which is probably the best game ever.Yes, better than DayZ. If you're only interested in the DayZ experience, and are willing to be patient and wait for the game to slowly progress, the SA might be a better option for you.

novogeek 253 Posted March 3, 2014 ArmaII and the Mod has more content than Standalone right now and as posted you get ArmaII as well ... which is a great game. Standalone is still a work in progress ... Alpha ... lacking content because of Alpha ... or whatever else you want to say ... so you may feel like you are wasting your money. If you can afford both ... buy both ... if you can only afford one, buy ArmaII and play the Mod ... you'll get more of a DayZ experience from that and can always buy the Standalone later. I bought the Standalone to help the developers but actually have very little time in the game ... I am still playing the Mod ... Vanilla version ... no Epoch or other stuff. :) The choice is yours ... but you probably won't get any sympathy if you buy Standalone and then post that there is not enough content or it isn't the full DayZ experience ... you have been warned. 8-}
Silentine 44 Posted March 3, 2014 Ok if you have watched ''The Walking Dead'' DayZ is the game that goes closest.Closer than the TWD game even. However, DayZ SA is in early alpha yet, lot and lot of restrictions, the ammount of the weapons can be counted on your fingers.Lots of bugs and glitches still present.Perfomance issues sometimes and some lag.Ohh and zombies often go through walls. The mod I can say compared to the SA game is finished.Lots of weapons and various features in different servers.Bugs as I can think of right now are almost extinct. Just remember this is not a shooter.Don't expect running around mashing the mouse button.Lost of running, scouting, sneaking, stealth gameplay, and brutality from players. blaf 63 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) DayZ standalone has more complex game mechanics, with even more to come however as said above it lacks content at this moment. On the other hand if you are willing to play also ArmA, be aware that ArmA 3 is already available, however you won't be able to run the DayZ mod on it. btw, loot/zombie respawn is being worked on in the standalone and should be available soon. escobert 112 Posted March 3, 2014 I prefer the gameplay/menus/look of the SA to the mod but, as others have said the mod has more so people have more to occupy themselves besides kosing. I think the SA will be the way to go once there's more to it. Or if you don't mind gearing up and dying then the SA may be for you right now.

Anyone that can set me straight on this aspect? Servers restart every 4 hours, sometimes sooner I guess, but 99 out of 100 servers is 4 hours cycle. How are the hackers at this point have they weeded enough of them out to give new players a fighting chance? I know with valve and cheatpunch I still see tons of obvious hacks, but it is livable atm. As for my 73 hours of gameplay, I have met no hacker. I want zombie apoc and some pvp, how does this game compare to say "nether" or "7 days to die" in terms of what you can do, evolving aspects and ofc graphics. Never would have bought Rust had I known Zombies were getting 86'd. I have no experience with nether, and 7 days is a fun game, but with poorer graphics, but with strong survival aspect. Zombies are darn tough, they can climb, break etc and you really need to fight for food and resources. For now, if you can find a good server for playing 7 days, I'd go for that. But I hope DayZ will become equally hard some day :) Edited March 3, 2014 by yogi92
