Ok, so today I had a bittersweet feeling. I'm also regretting almost every decision I made then.

Let me tell my story. I was in Cherno, heading back from Balota on my way to Elektro. I decided to stop in the (I think it's a hospital) hospital. I was on a fairly light server, only about 10 people on, so when I heard re-loading noises, I assumed it was just a glitch. I was in a staircase, so I was in quite a bind. I heard it above me, so I decided to aim at the staircase. I was going to chat to ask him if he was friendly, but again, I was in a staircase, I didn't know what weapon he had, and he had the height advantage. I only talk to people if I know they don't have a gun, or if I have my gun aimed at them. Anyway, I aimed my M4A1 at the staircase, waiting for him. It happened quick, he ran down the stairs and I had little time to react, so I blasted him with 36 rounds from my coupled magazine... (This was the first time I'd used the M4 in-game...) After he basically turned into a fountain of blood, I went to check his loot. Sadly, I ruined all his stuff, except for one of the rarest things in the game... A Pristine Mosin with Pristine Bipod, Pristine long range scope, and a bayonet. I really wanted to take it, but I couldn't give up my M4.

Now I'm regretting not talking to him to see if he was friendly, and I'm regretting not taking the mosin. I've decided that I'm going to go to Elektro and sit in a building and watch people. I will kill anyone who preforms hold-ups. Hopefully I don't die...

You could have taken the mosin while the m4 was on your back... it would be a pain in the ass though, since interacting with other stuff would mean that you drop the mosin every time and would have to pick it up often (and risk losing it in a server reset if it's not in your hands).

As for whether you were justified, that's totally your call.

Not knowing what other gear he had, I can not say for sure.  However, running around of the coast with a mosin and LRS makes me think bandit.  Tho why he would have a bayonet on it puzzles me.  It just makes the weapon longer and thus, the player easier to spot.  I would much rather have a componsator.  In any case, I would call it a clean kill, atleast as far as any kill can be justified when you shoot first.

I agree with you about the Mosin + Lrs = Bandit part. I think the same thing. I like to think I'm not a bandit, but I feel somewhat bad about doing this. I forgot to talk to the dude right after I killed him, I wish I could've apologized...

Your sins are forgiven, child. In the apocalypse, we have all seen things. All... done... Things we can never take back.

Aye, so now that my sins are forgiven and I have your blessing, that means I shall go murder everyone I see, right???

We've all done some regrettable shit brah. One time I just straight up murdered an innocent fresh spawn who we had outnumbered. I don't know why. I guess it was instinct at first. Nowadays I'm much nicer, but back then I tried to repent. So I went to the church in Stary Sobor and my bro got glitched behind the altar and couldn't get out smfh. We had to face the wrath of god.

*splashes holy water on your face*

THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU! THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!

lol, that's up to you. I personally like being friendly. I had a nice little chat with a guy who could've back-stabbed me today, but he didn't. It was a nice change. Overall I'm just Neutral though.

Why do you feel bad? You don´t know who that was and it is not smart to expect him to be friendly.

"Mosin + LRS = Bandit looking for freshspawned" This is a total bullshit and I can confirm that on me, i´m not a bandit but my favourite strategy would be more Mosin+LRS rather than M4+whatever. Pretty sure i´m not the only one.

You can have both weapons if you put the M4 on the shoulder. Then you can pick up the mosin from the floor. If you join another server - both weapons will be on the shoulder and you can sprint. As soon as you take anything in your hands, one of the weapons will fall on the floor, so you have to remember that everytime you are putting something in your hands.

Just a small tip - next time you can at least take the LRS if you feel having two weapons at the same time is too much. Mosin is a weapon which you will find like everywhere, a prestine Bipod is not rare at all, but the LRS... I would even destroy the scope if I rly don´t need it/no space

Have fun

I load out the other way, mosin on back and M4 in hands.  M4 is one you might have to use on the move and Mosin with scope you really need to stop.  This is the same reason I treat solo players with a scoped mosin in hand or only rifle as a bandit.  It is not a self defence weapon, unless engaged by another wanabe sniper.  Yes I do carry one, Camo painted even, but it stays on my back unless I am on overwatch.  Once you get off the coast, I can understand the LRS at easy access for scouting towns before you enter.  But someone geared up and back on the coast with Mosin in hand is LOOKING TO KILL SOMEONE.

Maybe you made a mistake by killing him, but this is DayZ, mistakes happen...alot, you did not take the mosin...don't regret that.

1st rule of dayz - don't get attached to your gear

2nd rule of dayz - don't live from regrets

Not going to read your story, but wanted to encourage you to always kill on sight.

Don't trust friendly players, it's all a trap.

Sorry bro, HRKIGV is correct.

I am new here; thanks for noticing the obvious. Unfortunately, I've been executed at nearly every encounter that began with the words, "Friendly, don't shoot man."

The only people who haven't killed me yet didn't have a rifle. One guy defied this as well by waiting for me to pick up a gesture of good faith (Ammo) and clubbing me in the head with a pipe wrench.

Ya... Kill on sight.

Today i was in Elektro to find some loots, I went in a house and I saw something out. There was 2 full geared players which saw me. They stood near the door and when I figured that I would've died If I would get out, I said in chat "I'M COMING OUT, I'M FRIENDLY AND I DON'T WANNA HURT YOU". It worked. They let me go away.

Friendly people exist

Not true at all, and you're assuming too much here. If you're a lone wolf carrying both, you have the Mosin in your hands most of the time. The lack of binoculars at the moment makes this a necessity. Lone Wolves are going to be a bit more paranoid and scan areas from the treeline with the scope before they move into a potentially dangerous area. Once you get deep into cities, inside buildings, then you switch to the M4. But you might still switch again if that building offers a good vantage point to look around. So it's not just sniping; a scoped Mosin is just the best tool there is for recon right now.

Don't worry about it, I mess up all the time in the game and if regretted it all the time my head would explode. That's why you need to learn the skill of not giving a fuck.

BTW: KoS in Elektro, Cherno and Balota is totally OK, people who go there should always be ready to die.

I did take the LRS, he also had a PU scope, and I would have taken that, except it was damaged, and iron sights are better than a damaged PU. I did have fun, and I ended up dying later from some dude that shot me while I was climbing a ladder in Elektro.... I agree with almost everyone here now, shoot anyone that has a gun on sight seems to be the best way to play the game. I wouldn't shoot anyone that didn't have a rifle, just hold them up....

I was in Cherno, I am redeemed! Seriously though, I know that KOS Is a standard in Military areas and major cities such as Berezino, Cherno, and Elektro, but I still wish I would have been able to talk to him, I think I would've won in a firefight anyway, since I had an m4 and he had a Mosin and it was Close Quarters..

ofc there is 50/50 chance of all KOSers that they wont shoot fresh spawns and compromise theirs position... but if you see another "geared" guy .... lets see the odds

I've actually never tried to kill anyone that didn't have a gun, I tried to kill one dude that I was "friends" with, we just met on the server... I decided to give him ammo *facepalm* then while I was eating, he shot me in the face..
