Cant see direct chat or hear player voice

Hi, ive been playing DayZ for a few days now and its great, but for some reason I cant see peoples chat on-screen or hear their voice chat either. Im currently playing without a mic so am relying on the chat function to communicate. I can see my own chat but no one else's chat shows up. Ive met plenty of other players and not one of the has communicated to me at all. I met a group 4 guys in one of the military bases, not one of them said a word through voice chat or typing and the whole time i was typing in direct chat... This has happened with every player i have met. This is obviously game breaking and i have no idea what the problems is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check in your sound settings that you don't have VON turned down all the way...

 

If that's not it then I have no idea.  :|

Nothing works so far. Met more players, still no communication whatsoever. I cant hear them or see what they type. I cant believe im going to have to stop playing this game for good. :( Gonna reinstall the game, hopefully that will work, if not then bye bye DayZ. What i find astonishing is that no one else seems to be suffering from this issue.

Reinstalling did not fix this issue. So long DayZ it was fun whilst it lasted.

FIXED! If your not using a mic you must enable STEREO MIX in the Recordings tab of the Sound control panel. No idea why this would effect written text but it does! I can now hear people and communicate using text! Order a mic off Amazon, looking forwards to playing this game properly now. :D
