PC Requirements for SA

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have a friend that really wants this game and as i have no issues running the game personally, but his PC is currently lacking the requirements. On http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri it recommends you have 512 mb dedicated video ram but he only has 256. Anyone think if you put minimal graphics and low settings it could still handle it?

The absolute minimum requirement for DayZ is stated as a HD3830, which is a 256mb graphics card. Not all graphics cards are created equal though and chances are, your 256mb card is slower than this one.

However, don't expect it to run well or be enjoyable with a older system at or close to the minimum.

If it is a good friend you trust just let him download and try it through your steam name on his computer. Best way to know for sure..

Considering how it runs on my 7970 Matrix Platinum and i7-3770k, it will NOT run on your friends pc. At least not with what I consider bare minimum performance/graphics. It's a very bad optimized game.

Well, I don't think asking for PC requirements or asking if your PC can run it (Except if you consider your computer to be utterly trash) is wise IMO. The game needs and lacks a lot of optimization.

Those Steam specs should be labelled as follows:

Minimum Spec: PowerPoint slideshow

Recommended Spec: Hope you like 15 FPS. In the woods.

I played fine at low-ish settings in 1680x1050 on a system close to recomended specs, 20ish to 30ish fps in cities and 50-60 in the woods.

(955BE @ stock, 4gb and gtx275)

Since upgraded my GPU to an r9 270, and overclocked to 3.6 (CPU is a c2 and doesn't overclock well) & 8gb of ram. My framerates are basically the same, the game just looks nicer now, framerates are also pretty much identical to my friends 2500k and gtx760... so, anyway... recomended spec can deliver a decent gameplay experience.

Minimum is almost certainly a slideshow though.

I stand corrected. Thanks for posting that.

I based my comments on my experience of tweaking SA graphics on a co-workers PC i5 2300 (stock clocks) and HD6850 (stock clocks) and didn't consider switching down from 1920 x 1080 as I've gamed at this resolution for so long.

If he's ever planning on playing other games on the computer, you should just convince him to upgrade his graphics card anyway. Any other games that come out he may want to play aren't really going to have lower requirements.

He can probably get a decent one for like 40-50 bucks to make the game playable
