Laughing at KOS failures.

Recommended Posts

Let me just say, this is not a whine about KoS, but rather I'm hoping somewhere that people can laugh at those failed attempts at KoS, or when someone tries it on them. I'll start with my story. (Should state I am a friendly player, Generally I only atack if attacked first, and if I see someone well geared, and I'm not seen, I generally stay out of the way, maybe observe, if I'm not spotted)

I play this game mainly with my nephew now (He's 18) and we had managed to get fairly geared up. I had a Mosin with LRS (Worn) and a pristine compensator (Does this thing actually do anything btw? First time I've managed to find a useable LRS) alongside an FNX, fire axe, water bottle etc etc (Ya know what I mean, my nephew was equally geared), and we were looting Svet before continuing our journey back down south to help or maim Bambi's ( It depended on how they reacted). Well I managed to glitch through a wall and fell to my death. Anyways, My nephew grabbed what he could for me, holding my rifle in his hands to save it whilst I ran up to meet him.

Now after meeting, due to the server being a high population, I switched to a fairly empty one just to replace the gear I had lost. (Might sound like it was taking advantage etc etc, but we wanted to continue our plan soon as possible. And by low pop I mean like 5/40)

Anyways, my nephew stayed on that server whilst I swapped, and I head out to NEAF. Now, I scope the place through my rifle and see nothing, so I move in. Loot the tower and building next to it, getting a tact vest, some new trousers, tact shirt and a bag. Moving onto the first hangar, I still see no one. Now, as I get towards the top heading for the entrance, a guy from the back begins opening fire on me with an M4. First shot hits, but I'm alright (was energised, hydrated and healthy) So I sprint forwards, hitting the entrance and running to the side, drawing my pistol covering the entrance. During this time I hear him let rip, roughly 39-59 shot (Judging on time I hear gun shots, not actual shots I could count, all I hear is continuous fire)

Taking a quick moment, I check to see if I'm bleeding and nothing, just lost my healthy status and sown a level on energised. A few moments later, the guy runs in, not checking the sides until he's around 15 foot in. Here I'd like to say I was all calm and collected, hitting him with a classic 2 to the chest 1 to the head, but I unloaded all 15 shots and watched him drop. At this time, I hear him whining " Why you shooting me, why you killing me?" All that business, to which I answer "You tried it first." His response? " yeah but you killed me!" (was around here I realised this was probably some one barely in puberty).

Anyways, checked the body, nothing useful, and went back to the other server now I was ready to continue after replacing what I needed.

So does anyone else have stories like this? Or maybe they went to KoS and failed in such a way that it's funny?

I just thought this could be a laugh after all the whines about KoS and what not.

XD

I had a guy try it. I knocked him out, looted, revived (defib) and cuffed him. Then I.shot in legs, bandaged, and repeated for like 3 minutes. Hes like "How do I combat log, can you move so.I can log, whatd I do to you"

I broke his legs, called my buds to steal the gear and left him XD

Yeah, amusing reaction, not surprising, (and must have been satisfying) but in terms of your hopping it only sounds like 'taking advantage' because you were. I wonder: where is the fun in it? Where is the challenge where you hop to an almost empty server to gear so you can then hop to a busier one to help or maim bambis? I'm genuinely curious. I do understand that time is limited, my own is as well (married, kid), but gear isn't guaranteed.

I've emptied entire clips into players at NEAF before, too. It does get your heart going. Best thing about the game.

Something about solo KOSers and NEAF. I guess they need the practice?

My first week playing. I was leaving the eastern jail building at NEAF. I swung the doors open, and was greeted with a barrage of M4 fire before I could even take a step, and was hit, twice. I panicked and ran back into the building for the stairs. My attacker followed. I took a shot with my Mosin as I was running backwards up the stairs, and missed his head by a hair. He opened up with the M4 again, and hit me one more time. I was still up, but I wasn't going to last long at this rate, and there's no way I could go toe to toe against his M4 with my bolt action.

I ditched the rifle for my sawed off, and worked out a plan with what little time I had left. I ran down the other end of the landing, where the loot usually is, and quietly crept my way back to the bunk room. I laid flat, my shotgun trained on the open door. My assailant must have been waiting for me to bleed out. After a minute or so, he crept up the stairs. When he got to the top, he wheeled around, expecting me to be at the end of the hallway. I hit him squarely in the chest with buckshot as he came around, and he fell. Hard. I shot him again as he laid there. I went over and took his fully modded M4 and staggered down the stairs, my world turning white. I went back through the doors I had just opened, and fell to the ground. He may have killed me, but I killed him first and took his prized M4.

Killed this one guy at the NEAF on an almost empty server on night time. I had my FNX with the flash light going around the buildings. The doors were open, so I stayed frosty. As soon as I peeked out of the front door, there was a guy with an SKS. We both exchanged fire and only one bullet hit me, in the torso while I filled his entire body with .45 rounds. Sadly this was on a build that had the bodies disappearing fast bug and as soon as I bandaged, the whole body was gone. :(

I understand what you mean, and yes I was taking advantage in some ways. However, My nephew doesn't have a lot of time to play either, and we both found we enjoy playing together rather than solo, it's the main reason I did it this way. Mainly because tryng to re-gear on a high population server could set us back weeks, if not months, of being able to play together again properly. (I know he could of covered and made up for my shortcomings till I was geared, but he is really new to the game, 10 hours compared to my 70 odd now)

But please post again, I have a feeling you have some interesting stories you could share =) I'm sorry if this sounds obnoxious or anything like that, but you are the sort of person in many ways I hoped would post. You question part of my actions (Which is understandable) but are also able to see the funny side, and also karma of my actions =) (Which should also be noted that shortly before dying in my first post, I accidentally broke my nephews character's leg through desynch whilst playing around)

Also, have some beans!

You my good sir, deserve my beans! You may have died, but you reigned your judgement upon him and even though it took your life, you will always remember moments like this!

Nah, it doesn't sound obnoxious. I am not a big proponent of telling people how they should play. In fact, I hate that people often do that. It's absurd. There is no right way to play. I don't like people who hack, who exploit glitches, who combat log, who ghost, and server hop ( And you didn't hop. You simply went from one server to another and back, and with an understandable reason,) all traits that fall outside of the scope of play.

So, I don't think that there is, nor should there be, a "proper" way to play. Gearing, for many, is the highlight. There are many people on these forums who never want to kill anyone, and enjoy the act of gearing up, surviving, and helping others, the most. And there are people who shoot (or try to shoot) everyone they see. There are clans who run around hungry and thirsty because they could give less of a fuck about eating and drinking, and they know they're going to die to guns before starvation or thirst anyway, and there is everything in between. So, it's about the style that you and your nephew want to play together, which is cool. Thanks for the answer. And beans for you, good sir!

My view on play style has evolved over the year or more I've been playing the mod and now the standalone. There are some people who post videos here who embody a style that I really appreciate, and it varies. Manbearpig is one. Vigilante Gamer is another, and this video both changed my mind somewhat when I first saw it, and also encapsulates how I currently feel about the game, with the only exception being that I don't believe that anyone playing the game in anyway can ever ruin it. The game is beyond being ruined by players. I omit hacking/exploiting from that statement. Anyway, it's a well-reasoned and well-articulated argument he makes:

I had my own near death from a KoS player just the other day.

I was wandering around Krasnostav, gathering the usual supplies, when I decided I would head down the coast and hand out food and see what kind of trouble I could get into. I got through Berezino well enough, ran into a fresh spawn as I continued south and gave him some beans and a bottle of water. We parted and I continued my journey and for awhile it was peaceful. The sounds of waves crashing and that crisp ocean air calming the nerves.

As I approach Solnichniy I can see someone moving from house to house. I give him a once over and notice he only has a fire extinguisher on his back. I approach empty handed, mosin on my back, and call out "Hey pal. Take it easy, I'm not here to hurt anyone." He stops in the street and starts typing. At this point we're both in the street making our opening remarks. As he's typing I take a moment to look around the area, and boy did I get lucky here. Just as I look left I spot another player right as he peeks his head out, rifle ready to fire. My fingers instinctively know what to do as I turn my body and start side stepping to the nearest cover while pulling out my rifle and yelling over direct "whoa! Easy now", but before I could finish my sentence he took his shot. He completely misses both myself and the fresh spawn. Now my heart starts racing and the shooter and I are on the same side of the street. The fresh spawn flees and I take a moment to collect myself.

(I should note that this took place on the experimental build, so it was a bit more tense dealing with the constantly respawning zed threat)

At this point the zeds are getting riled up and are moving around. There are only a few buildings between me and the shooter. He is closer to the hill and trees than me. I have a PU scope on my rifle and decide that it would be best to put some distance between us as I would have a slight advantage in that regard. I head across the street, attracting the unwanted attention of a few zeds. I pull out my axe and dispatch two of them before switching back to my rifle. The zeds are kinda like tracers in the sense that they will give away your position. I peek around the house I'm hiding behind and still have no eyes on my assailant. I break for the treeline, putting space and more importantly some nice, large trees between us. I maneuver around a bit and find a nice comfortable spot between a couple trees. From here I can see a good portion of the town and all of the open field that is further north, and so I wait.

A few minutes pass when what do I spy with my little eye? The little bastard sneaking around town moving north. He is going building to building and almost constantly moving. I keep watch and wait for that most opportune moment to strike. As he moves from house to house I start to estimate the range. He's about 200 to 250 meters away. I make the proper scope adjustments and keep track of him when suddenly he stops just outside a house. He is peeking around the corner looking north. I take a breath and squeeze the trigger *BANG*. I bolt another round into the chamber and peer through the sight to see if I had scored a hit. It appeared I had. It looked like the round impacted just underneath the armpit, tearing through flesh and lungs. He was down for the count.

I looked towards the north where the shooter was looking and spot a fresh spawn ducked in a bush. He was headed south and most certainly to his imminent death had I not taken out the menace. Whether or not that fresh spawn was friendly or a bandit I do not know. Either way he had free reign over the freshly deceased fellows gear.

I packed up and headed inland, happy in knowing that I had rid that small section of Chernarus of one bad dude. For the moment at least.

It was a good time.

Also a side note. I approve of all playstyles. Though I may not like the KoS method, it is still a perfectly valid way of playing. I choose the friendly route as I find it more enjoyable, but we need both ends of the spectrum and everything in between. It's what makes each encounter different and exciting.
