Runs the game, but want something a bit better

Recommended Posts

Hey just wondering what a relatively cheap swapout would be for my Nvidia GT220 1024MB, I know its an older card... But it actually runs the game very playable for me.. however everything is very low and I want something to be able to play with all the settings on atleast normal.

Without going over 150$ what can anyone suggest?

My specs to my knowledge are....

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor 2.66GHZ

8GB DDR2

750GB HD

NVIDIA GeForce GT220 1024MB

According to my power supply, It has a DC Output of 360W if that helps at all.

Anyways thanks for any replies.

Also I tried posting it in the "Will DayZ Run for me" Post but got no response.

For only $150, I don't think there's anything you can do.  To make the game play better you're gonna need a new graphics card, processor, power supply, motherboard, and a ram upgrade would help a bit.

I was running an intel q6700 cpu, 4 gigs ddr2 800 mhz ram,  a gtx260, and it wasnt doing too much for me quality wise.

I first swapped out to a gtx660 and was able to run the game on slightly higher settings, but was still limited especially in cities. After that I made the big leap and switched to an i5 4670k, 8 gigs of ddr3 ram, a MSI z87-gd65 gaming mobo,  and of course the gtx660 and it blew me away how much better things run.

I know, not exactly a cheap option, the mobo, cpu, and ram was all together about $500, but its what was required to get this game running beautifully.

In your position, Id save the money instead of trying to buy an individual component in an attempt to improve the game. By the time you can afford everything you need, the game will have further developed hopefully for the better anyway.

i have picked up a couple of gtx570's on ebay for about $125. one with a system similar to yours produced good visuals while giving decent frames. you would of course need a better power supply though. are you gonna build your new machine when its time? if so no harm in picking up a few components in the mean time if you can...

Very true, better optimization is coming!

And unfortunately not, Im not as computer savvy as I was when I was 18ish.. However I will most definitely pick out a few pre-built computers and post them on the forums so that you can all help me decide! Hehehe

Down lower beneath the mod section of the forum, theres a hobbies sub forum which has a technology sun forum beneath it.  Thats where I go for info relating to the game and computers.  I just picked up a solid state drive today because of tips from people in there.

Look into picking up one of the new GTX 750 ti cards - they are $149. They have been pretty impressive so far.  it will most likely make it more playable for you.  Also, the GTX 750 ti doesn't require power directly from the power supply, it draws from the PCI-E port on your motherboard.

The custom cooled and oc'd ones require one 6pin but still consume very little power: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/66793-gigabyte-geforce-gtx-750-ti-windforce/?page=10

Really though if OP want's higher FPS he will need to OC that C2Q as far as it can too, as previously suggested. Also about not being computer savvy, everything you need to know about it (pretty much) can be found with a quick google search. As I just said in a different thread, if you can build lego you can build a PC.

I'm pretty sure that processor has a locked multiplier anyway, so he can't overclock it. Really even if he could he would be still seeing poor performance because his whole rig is out of date.

My advice, just save to buy a whole new rig, I really suggest building it but if you're positive you don't want to and are okay with lower performance for more money then go ahead and buy what you can.
