Claw 26 Posted February 25, 2014 Hi All, Firstly this is not a negative knee jerk post about Dayz, please do not reply with " its alpha " because this has nothing to do with what stage the game is in, more a long term concern. Please reply in a mature way with your take on it. My concern is the very krux of what this game is supposed to be about - Zombies. After the SA was anounced and the engine confirmed I had hopes that the Zombie situation would be sorted ( now or eventually ) as it wasnt using the stock arma 2 engine more a hybrid of TOH etc. Right now i have concerns that the zombie situation will never be sorted due to limitations of the engine, i feel we will never have the levels of gore / limb removal we have seen in many zombie games ( its what you would expect ) or have them not glitching through walls - The whole point of this game is Zombies << its called DayZ< for a reason, and as we know as they really pose no threat or seem to have any imagination thrown at them in terms of different types etc. I think this in turn has caused the game to really be just deathmatch with some survival thrown in. I dont have a great deal of knowledge in terms of the process of game development but me personally i would rather see Dayz with no content at all and have the zombie situation sorted, would be happier just having a knife and decent zombies, content like other guns etc could of always be added further down. I would be interested in other people take on this? do you really think we will have decent zombies one Day on SA or do you think like me that the game will always be limited by the engine it runs on? Claw 26 Posted February 25, 2014 I'l have a look at the when i'm back from work , thanks. I dont have a great deal of faith in regards to the Zombies and surley a game that is a Zombie game they should be the no1 priorty along side the standard foundation of a game. But yeah will have a look later. Do you or anyone have more faith after watching it?
iBane 381 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) I must respectfully disagree with your premise that: "The whole point of this game is Zombies." It is not true to say the only point of this game is zombies. What the game is about is survival in a harsh post-apocalyptic world in which one of the many threats is zombies. There are other threats like starvation & dehydration due to the complete lack of a functioning economy. There are threats of disease and injury as well - and the even greater threat of them going untreated because there is no medical infrastructure anymore. And from the beginning Dean has said that the greatest threat in Day Z will always be from other players who are in the same boat and want your stuff. I do not disagree that zombies can be improved...of course they can, but they are one component of this not-yet completed game. That doesn't mean they aren't important, but if they don't end up being everything we can possibly imagine them to be it doesn't mean the game won't be good or great; likewise if zombies do turn out to be terrific that doesn't' mean the other critical parts of the game would necessarily be great. Don't hang all your hopes for this game on zombie mechanics alone. Consider zeds as one important part of a lot of important parts and judge the game when it's finished (or at least in commercial release) on it's whole offering. Claw 26 Posted February 25, 2014 I bane- True and i really like all the other aspects you have mentioned and feel they are working well or on the way to be working well. Dont get me wrong i think SA has tons of potential and some great ideas are in the pipeline, I thinkI have just finally lost a bit of faith of the end of sub par zombies and i still believe they should be a very big part of the game, it is called Dayz for a reason rather than DayS for survival. As others have said the lack of a decent threat ( even in the mod ) has caused the deathmatch situation. I still very stongly believe that factions and a punishment for killing ppl in your faction would be the answer alongside decent zeds. I'm sure it could be implemented so its not just wasteland with zombies i do understand ppls concerns that factions would ruin the concept of the game but i think it makes sense and would bring people together. There would still be room for a lot of PVP, people in real life would form comunitys in an apocolypse as much as some would be all for all / lone wolf. Thanks for the decent replys, we should be able to discuss a game regardless of stage in development :)
RoterBallon 68 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) A modder had a deep look into game files 2 months ago. Regarding to Zs he said that they will probably plan 10x Zs which means like 13-20 Zs each crossroad in electro. They are done when they are done, but so many Zs would be great :) Imagine only 5x Zs and you shoot a single round right outside a city.. thats like 100 Zs aggroed on you :DHope this dream comes true :) There you go, found the screenshots :)http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3492/tjiovdcb_jpg.htmhttp://www.directupload.net/file/d/3492/ask2hpcr_jpg.htm EDIT: He ran a LAN-server to test things and have a deep look into the game. This was between xmax and new year ;) Edited February 25, 2014 by RoterBallon
