You can't kill animals yet.

Hopefully soon you can hunt, though, then you can avoid the deathtrap towns for a while.

 

Oh, btw, if you hear random zombie noises, or eating/drinking noises and there's no one around, it's coming from a rabbit.  :)

Maybe there is only this one special rabbit hopping around in the game, making the crazy eating/drinking noises to test players attention and wake up camping bandits. :)
