SarcasticDom 1 Posted February 20, 2014 Hi, my name is SarcasticDom and today I bought DayZ and so far i'm enjoying it lots. Things I'm really enjoying so far. 1. Other players: Although i've heard lots of bad things (Like KOS), i've met only three players so far: two armed with rifles and another new spawn like myself. The duo stole my blood, but didn't kill me despite the fact they could and gave me a pepsi. The new spawn left me alone. 2. How brutal it is: i was at some kind of train station and climbed up some metal steps onto a higher level in a building. to save me a few seconds worth of time i decided to jump down, breaking my legs. I then crawled around until i dragged myself to a zombie, which tank fully killed me. 3 The satisfaction: I spend a good half hour running around, hungry. I had drank at a well and had a coke, so i was hydrated, but my character was getting hungrier and hungrier. I had just tried to punch a couple of zombies to death but had failed to. I ran to the next building where i found the mother load: a splitting axe, three cans of beans, two cokes and a water bottle. The fact everything had been so scarce made this treasure trove all the better. My next goal is to find some sort of gun while avoiding trouble. Can anyone recommend a good place to look? So that's just the first day of a newbie in DayZ. cannot wait for some mates to buy the game so we can steal people's trousers. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Elidor 1 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) It's good dat you found dat axe. Dat axe is your new best friend, until you get a fire axe, which is better. Wit dat axe, you can kill zombies - and players - in two hits or one headshot (compared to one hit for the fire axe). And of course the axe will open your food containers, too. So now you and your axe can roam pretty much at will, killing any zombies between you and the food, and maybe finding some nice things here and there. So you got dat going for you. Which is nice. Now you don't ever have to waste any ammo on zombies. Run up to them from behind and just...KILL. THOSE. FUCKERS. UHN! Yeah...so anyway, if you have to face them, just dance in circles and keep swinging, baby. Oh, yeah. Show them how to tango. Just weave backward like Muhammad Ali and make fools of them. They're almost totally harmless. You're starting to find guns now, and maybe you don't know what works for you, and what's with all this ammo? Since axes are for killing zombies, guns are for killing people. You're going to find more guns than you can carry, so you have to ask yourself: How do I want to deal with people? Close-up? Or far away? You have to decide on your weapon of choice. I'm not much for sniping people, I like to get up close and hands on. So the Mosin, a sniper rifle, is not really my thing. I like a good shotgun, and a pistol for crazy shootouts. The only way I'm going to engage someone is up close, unexpectedly, or maybe in a building. If I see them in the distance, I'm going the other way. So for me, the FNX45 in chest holster and the IZH-43 are comfort weapons, alongside my trusty axe. Accordingly, I collect .45ACP rounds and shotgun shells. Other ammo, alas, has to be passed over, as I do not have space for it. SarcasticDom 1 Posted February 21, 2014 Ok, thanks for all the tips. I'm glad that the axe is effective at killing zombies, they no longer feel like a threat. Also i think i feel the same as you: I reckon i'm not much of a sniper so a shotgun or pistol would serve me well.
