These items would be rather common in a household within a post Soviet country, a lot of veterans have such clothes.

Is it just me or is a too cliché look over the top?

 

I mean, I see many posts like that. Cars aside I imagine most of the stuff (not necessarily all posted here but in general) or a lot phased out, at least regarding military use. Some of the populace could have that lying around though?

I like the idea of WW2 soviet helmets possibly be found in barns or maybe at military bases as surplus supplies laying around while the more modern equipment is made more rare.

Well, take a look at some photos from the protests in Ukraine; plenty of people there seem to have dug military helmets out of their closets; so I figure that the former Soviet Republic of Chernarus would also have a lot of these.
