M4: auto and semi theory

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking about theory this, but haven't tried it.

When you shoot at someone on auto with the m4, the rounds sometimes seem to get lots in the server latency/synch. I've been thinking if using the rifle on semi-auto you might get better hit registration.

  • when you shoot 5 rounds on full auto, you click and hold down the fire command 1 time, sending 1 action to the server.
  • when you shoot 5 rounds in semi auto, each round has a command sent to the server, so out of 5 rounds, 2 might disappear in latency and 3 hit its target. way safer than full auto.

This is just a theory me and a friend at work talked about. I'd like some comments and speculations on this.

Actually the latency has nothing to do with the amount of times you click the button but the physical projectiles that get generated by the weapon. This is where your latency is.

For example:

 -> 3rd Burst mode ... one click - 3 bullets

 -> Single fire ... three clicks - 3 bullets

The same amount of physical projectile objects in the game are created and these need to be ghosted to all clients via the server. This is assuming the engine works like most game engines ... so don't quote me on that.

Interesting... but if bullets dissapeared due to lag, semi automatics, like the fnx or the bolt action mosin + revolver should loose rounds too, right? because to the engine they are all just semiautomatic weapons.
