The Free World Republic's Memento

Recommended Posts

*Hey everyone i'm Malvarik of the Republic. We are a group dedicated to helping those in need and punishing those who wish to hurt others. I am a writer so i thought i would write some stories about our group for you in the form of journal entries! If you want to contact us just add me on steam(Malvarik). If you have any comments or suggestions just leave them down below!*

Today’s date is unknown to all of us. We presume that it is August because of the rain but we have no way of checking. The sound of the rain hitting the deteriorating street under our feet drones on as we march forward. Our group The Republic was originally 15 members but we have now gained a number of supporters beyond what we though possible. I stop for a moment to admire the march of our soldiers at a staggering number of 63. Each of them has their reasons for being here such as me. Some came here because they had nowhere else to go while others came here to support our cause. We soon pass a sign that tells us that we are approaching Khelm. I gaze forward past the soldiers and see that our leader Igor Romanov leads from the front and his second in command Tom Guiness is at his side. Behind them our captain Lio is encouraging the troops to push forward as the rain pours endlessly. I then look back at the huge army and it reminds me of Alexander The Great and his army that conquered a large portion of Europe. I feel a tap on my shoulder and look over to see my fellow squad leader John Harris.

As the rain drowns out his voice I can only manage to hear, “Igor needs you in the front.”

I look at him and nod then jog ahead to where our leader is. I pass by a number of troops who only look at me, and nod. When I reach Igor and Tom they look over to the troops and yell to them that we are setting up camp for the night. Everybody sighs with relief, grabs their tents, and looks for a dry spot to set up at. I help Igor, Tom, and the other squad leaders set up the main tent. We finish building the tent then bring in the chairs, foldable table, and maps of our route. Igor sits down at the head chair and pulls out a box of cigars. He holds out the box to each of us but he is the only one with the desire to smoke.

”What a bunch of wusses” he mutters as he lights the cigar.

After lighting the cigar he puts it to his mouth, lets go, and releases a puff of smoke.

“So gentleman, we have many options ahead of us. We can either go straight to airfield or we can check for supplies first within the surrounding towns.” He says to us.

We each reflect upon the risks of going straight into the airfield and the risks of taking the time to loot the towns first. The first one to speak is the captain, Lio.

“Sir, we should go straight to the airfield and set up shop first. Then we can get supplies.”

Before any of us can agree or suggest otherwise, another squad leader Lex replies, “No, we need to check the towns before there is flooding so that we can get enough supplies for our troops.”

The argument between Lex and Lio continues for another 10 minutes before Igor intervenes and makes it clear that we will go with Lex’s plan. Lio gives him a furious look and storms out of the Commander’s tent into the rain. We all say goodnight to each other and head out to where our tents are.

All that the North East airfield has for us was disappointment. When we finished going through the place all we found was one or 2 old mosins, some ammo, and a half crate of beans. Around two weeks have passed since then and we’ve now relocated ourselves to a classified area by the North West Airfield. There are always people moving in and out of there and they are usually the bandit type of folk so we have no problem holding them up them. Every once and a while there’s a good guy or nice group of folks who come through so we usually let them pass and slip them some beans In exchange for them not mentioning us to anyone else. Our commander Igor is making me write this stupid “Memento”. He says that we need to have a memento that generations afterward can read so that we can preserve our “legacy”. I don’t think I’ve wrote who I am yet so here it is. My name is Captain John Harris of the U.S. Air force. I was shot down not too far of the coast of Chernarus because some higher-ups didn’t want the virus to spread. From what I’ve seen here, I hope to fucking god that it worked. This place is even more horrible than I would have thought. The people who still remain here are cruel, the food tastes like shit, and they don’t have any fucking whiskey. There’s also the current problem of what’s lurking in the forest. Recently some of our scouts have reported masked men and weird things then they suddenly go missing. Whatever lurks out there better stay there unless it wants it throat slit courtesy of yours truly. We also have the problem relating to some rag-tag group of dickheads who call themselves, “The People’s Republic of Grishino”. They praise about how they are saints and its there job to help the people. To be honest, all they are is wolves in sheep’s clothing. I go in scouting missions and I see what they do to people. It’s worse than any nightmare you can think of. The worst of them all is some guy they only call Smiley. The psycho conceals his face with a burlap sack that has a smiley face painted on it and whenever he captures someone they scream loud enough to wake the dead before he slices their neck open. The soldiers among us tell tales about how he dies but keep getting back up and that underneath his masks its just a skull with some flesh hanging on. I once knew a psycho named Jack Reed but I’m one hundred percent sure this isn’t the same guy. Jack was crazy but this guy is insane. Whatever lies ahead for our group we’ll be ready for it though. This is Captain John Harris, squad leader of The Free World Republic, signing off.
