Trapped!

While standing at the corner of a building and a fence, I used my esc key to go into the video settings for the game.  Once I made my video adjustments I retuned back to my character only to find myself on the other side of the fence in between the building, two garbage cans and cement barrier.  I'm trapped!!  Can not get out.  I do have room to move around some but not much.  Tried everything I could think of.  Exited out of the game and jumped back in and no such luck.  Still trapped in the same place.  Don't really want to start over, but things are not looking good.  Any suggestions or resolutions would be greatly appreciated.
