What is the difference between these 2?!? Help please!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

pretty new to Dayz, but knew about it for a long time.

I use Steam, and I went off and bought the Arma 2 collection thing that comes with Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation arrowhead.

I updated them, and just went in the menu screen of both games.

I installed Dayz Commander, installed the Dayz thing and configured some options that a utube vid told me to do.

On Dayz Commander, whenever I double click a Server, Dayz launches and I join that Server

Ok, now the MAIN question:

On the Steam shop, I was strolling about until I came across Dayz... On the Steam shop which costed money... £20,

but I got the Commander for free and am playing Dayz for free?

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Dayz you have to pay, and the Dayz that is for commander, and tell me which is better and why

(if anyone can send me links to extremely new player guides, that's be helpful)

SA is still early release and buggy, play the mod to learn a little and get the SA at retail release

Thanks,

but sorry, what is SA xD? I'm guessing it is StandAlone, but what is it and what is the difference?

I thank you very much for your answer, however can you elaborate a bit??

The game you are playing is the Mod, made for ArmA2.

The other one is a standablone game based upon the mod, but developed on its own, by the guy who invented the mod and the studio who made the ArmA series.

The Standalone is currently in alpha. You might encounter game breaking bugs (which means you might literally be unable to play the game for days) and other annoyances. It is nothing more than a testing phase, you can participate in if you preorder the game.

The Standalone has lot less content than the mod (eg: no vehicles, no bases, fewer weapons), but new content is added on a regular basis.

I've never played the mod, I guess the mod has more to offer right now, if you are simply interested in playing a game.

Ah,

so if I purchase the Game on Steam? I am technically pre-ordering it?

I don't really care about less stuff...

But another thing popped in my mind:

The only reason I bought Arma 2 is for Dayz... So does this mean I wasted my money?

If so, is there ANY way to refund... (I only bought it yesterday and live in the UK)

Unfortunately, no, there are no refunds.  But the mod is great and fun to play, and you should look into what else Arma II has to offer.  It's a great game with a lot of community driven content (like DayZ Mod)

I can imagine the mod being great... I just want Dayz so bad...

I have no clue about Arma 2, and I will not refund, but as a fully honest opinion, do you guys think I should purchase Dayz?

I don't care if less features, or even a few bugs here and there, I just want to have it preordered..

You actually buy a playable alpha version of DayZ Standalone, you are not "just" preordering it. However you shouldn't expect it to be a finished game, nor that you can play it always (due to bugs, that only affect you and e few other players, servers world wide rebooting every five minutes, fps issues that might even lead your high end machine to burn up in flames killing everyone in your block, etc.)

This depends on which version of DayZ you wanted to play.

Steam does not give any refunds at all, as far as I know. Maybe within a certain period of time after purchase, but you need to discuss that with steam support, on the forum no one can help you with that.

If you are to purchase the SA then expect some/many problems. But as a long playing DayZ Mod player i did not regret buying and playing SA

Edit: the 100 post ^^

{Who cares about you post counter?!}

Anyway, if you really want DayZ SA, buy it now. Even if now is not complete, buying it when it will be complete will cost more money, so if you are sure that you will take it...why not now?

I am a former mod player and I have to say that the standalone is far, far better. Even at this point, where (according to the devs) is only at 20% complete for the core features and it's clearly buggy. And, for and alpha, is extremely playable.

But, if I can give a real advice...before buying something read about it :/
