Unwarranted unconsciousness and disappearing gear

Recommended Posts

First off, I'd just like to say hello, as this is my first post on the forums (as far as I can remember). I'm already loving the Standalone and have put nearly 400 hours into the mod.

That said, I'm having a strange issue that I can only think of one cause for, and that is that all servers are somehow not linked. The problem is as follows:

I will log out perfectly fine with no negative status effects, and when i go back to the main screen I see my character with all his gear. Then, when I log back in later, no matter whether it's been a few minutes or several hours, whether I've restarted the game or not, I am simply stuck on "please wait...". So I wait...and wait...and then finally get frustrated and exit. I then switch servers, at which point i receive the message "you are unconscious." I am then finally forced to respawn, at which point I end up as a fresh spawn on the shore, all gear gone.

This has happened to me 3 or 4 times. Let me give you some details.

The first time it occurred, I figured it was some sort of combat-log deterrent, as I had been on the top floor of the prison on NWAF with a guy on the bottom floor telling me to come down. He hadn't made any moves for at least 15 minutes, and the initial adrenaline rush of encountering a hostile player had worn down quite a while before. I was bored, and I had to go pick someone up irl, so I just went prone and logged out. No shots had been fired, but when I encountered the situation I described before, I figured I'd simply been shot while logging out and lost all gear.

The problem then occurred again in Elektro, this time as I was running out of Elektro with a hostile mosin-toting bandit behind me who seemed to be after my child's backpack. Normally I'd have simply said "eh screw it" and gone at him fists raised, but the pizza was burning in the oven and I didn't want to respawn up at solnichniy again, so i hid in a bush and logged. He was far behind me, at least a couple hundred meters, as he had been running with his gun out. There were no zombies around. When I logged back in a few minutes later, I had the same problem.

It happened a third time when I was in Berezino. There were no players around, and no zombies around. I just get "please wait..." for an indefinite period of time, and then am unconscious. It happened again in elektro, where I had just found an M4, pistol, and taloon backpack, as well as a fire axe and plenty of food and drink. There were no players or zombies nearby.

My question is, am I the only person having this issue? Does it have something to do with switching servers rather than simply selecting "play" from the main menu? I don't think it's combat-related, as 50% of the time there was nothing around to kill me.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

While I don't know the official stance on the issue, I've seen this most consistently linked to bad net connections. So it's safer to stick with servers you ping really well to (for a few reasons...). Other than that, I've found that eventually you log in if you wait long enough on the please wait phase. Or get a desync kick.

I see. Well, I don't have a ping above 100 on any servers, and I usually join servers in the 20-80 ms range. Should I just stay on one server and select "play" instead of going into the server browser when I log in? And if I find this happening again, I'll read a book or something and wait on the "please wait" screen.

I'm not sure if it is the same problem but I also logged off once perfectly healthy and with lots of gear in Stary Sobor. Upon starting the game the next day, I was unconscious and when I tried to join again, I was a new survivor at the beach. :(

However, this was almost two weeks ago and hasn't happened again since.

I would suggest not to change servers too often. Maybe it's just a a placebo but I seem to experience less issues when always playing on the same server. Talk to your friends. pick one with a setup you like and a good ping and always play there...

Alpha = Shit happens.

Report to feedback tracker if you want.

Bottomline...

Alpha = shit happening.

Honestly I'd be inclined to just press the play button again, I also have a general rule about staying away from servers name that don't identify who's hosting <server info> Vilayer.com or whoever the GSP is, and obviously play on BE enabled servers only, after that lowest ping, add the good candidates to the fav's list and you should be right.

Yeah I've decided to avoid switching servers as much as possible now. I get <100 latency on most servers, so I should be able to find one my friends and I can play on with no issues.

Yeah I understand that about alpha. I wish development could go a bit faster but I'm enjoying the game already. If reporting it to the feedback tracker will possibly help, I'd be glad to. Any chance you

could link me to wherever that is? (After I finish this reply, I'll look around for it myself as well.)I've been doing that.

Played a couple sessions on the same server and haven't had the issue again. I hope it stays that way. I'll have to check the server and make sure it's hosted by Vilayer or whatever, rather than someone's private one.

This actually happened to me the other day after beeing kicked from a server.

There were only 2 other players, we were not near each other, so I assume the admin just didn't want anyone on his server? There were a few zombies around, but that leads to another question... if I am kicked from a server, do I stand there looking like an idiot for 30 seconds?  If so I would assume that is a bug?

Logging back in gave me the same problem though. Stuck at the please wait screen for about a minute before trying a new server... lost a newly geared (and well geared I might add) toon to it :(

I'm thinking that maybe I switched between hardcore servers or experimental servers without knowing it, but a part of me thinks that's also not the problem. I think I'll just stay on the server I'm currently on. I finally found a suppressor for my M4 so I'm happy with my gear and don't want to lose it :P
