Odd spawns & clipping

Recommended Posts

I went into this game with the assumption I'd be crawling around and trying to be sneaky. I crept through the first gaggle of zombies easily enough. The problem came when 1) they spawned right on top of me and 2) when they ran right through a wall.

The lack of being able to defend oneself was a little disappointed. I didn't know they'd made that change before I picked up the Operation Arrowhead. I'd like to at least be able to punch a zombie. Even if it didn't hurt him, I'd like the placebo effect.

The aggro that seems to last forever is pretty harsh. I ran to a light house, crawled up the ladder, bandaged myself, sat there for a good five minutes and tried to leave. The zombie tossed his paperback aside and chased me again. Brutal.

This build + Arma 2's own set of quirks is a fairly lethal combination, especially when you're starting out. The clipping bug is Arma's, I've found the body of a survivor embedded in a wall and then walked through the wall myself. The mod's problems, which make it not as much fun to play as it should be, are that you need either:

A basic starting weapon to deal with the odd zombie - that's gone for now.

A chance of getting stuff without an encounter - doesn't seem to happen. Only time I've ever snagged stuff unopposed was at a deer stand so this may be your best bet too.

A way to sneak past zombies - a broken mechanic as they can spawn right on top of you as you've discovered. Worth trying but essentially it's down to luck rather than skill and planning.

And when sneaking fails a way to lose your new best friends would be handy. Tricky as they run like Usain Bolt and nobody could accuse them of lacking persistence. And the spawning by or even in front of you problem will bite you here too. Running through and around buildings often works or a bracing swim if you're near the ocean, though the latter will lose you all you gear.

Basically at this stage in it's development I'd say it's not worth wasting your time trying to play the game 'properly' as you might with a more realistic simulation of the zombie apocalypse. Just treat each life a roll of the dice, sometimes you'll get lucky and get somewhere and have some fun, other times not so much and it's not worth trying too hard to recover if you get unlucky.

P.S. But the answer to your stuck in a lighthouse with a zombie below problem was to log out and back again (on a different server just to be safe). Exploit you say? Well yes, but while the game is running exploits of its own against you I think this is just leveling the playing field.

Thank you for the response! I really appreciate it.

I hope that they give us something to at least menace Zombies with in the near future off the bat :) (Maybe a bat...)
