framesh1ft 1 Posted June 24, 2012 Let me explain the problem for the uninitiated.Server hoppers are people that go to a place with good loot and just join different servers trying to get different items. They log in, grab loot, and log out to another server. This is irritating as it makes fortifying a building pointless, it makes it hard to find loot in certain spots without server hopping yourself (seriously... you'll find nothing but empty cans some places, even though you watch to make sure no one is going in or out for a long time)The DC'er is a player who gets into a jam (by zombies or from other players) and just disconnect. They either wait a while to join back or they join a different server. So my question... is there anything being done to address this? Just curious because currently, this is the biggest problem in the game right now.
Jorden 63 Posted June 24, 2012 D/C'ers are being dealt with. Server hoppers, well there's not much that can be done about it I don't think.
Merk1b2 0 Posted June 24, 2012 I think the best way to address it is to place a twenty second timer with no movement/gear interaction. With server hoppers, it's more difficult because they fall within the group of people who reconnect and join other servers to find friends, get out of the dark, lag, etc. I believe that one should not be able to pick up loot for two minutes after joining a server. This is not a problem for people who quit in the wilderness and if a person is trying to server hop, they have to wait two minutes each time which can add up quickly and bore them out. Terrorfex 0 Posted June 24, 2012 If you spend a few minutes camping the NWAF Barracks you will see lots of hoppers. It's really annoying. They are KOS for me :)

Redshift 58 Posted June 24, 2012 Honestly the easiest way to stop server hoppers is to make it so that when you spawn all loot in your immediate area is wiped. Say about the area of a control tower and extending both above and below you. This would at least force the people to log out away from the loot area, and then make their way in to pick up the loot, then walk back out of the area before jumping servers again. It takes more time, and is more dangerous, so you will probably see less hopping as a result.

This really has no effect on people playing honestly and at least slows down server hoppers or makes it more likely that they get killed. Maybe increase the time or whatever. aquilez 16 Posted June 24, 2012 Why can't we just eliminate the barrack gun spawns all together? Spread out the more powerful weapons in much more populated areas like in the coastal towns. Don't confine the guns in specific buildings.
Orgy (DayZ) 0 Posted June 24, 2012 Honestly, one of the best things I can think of doing for server hoppers is this:If you log out in a city or a normal loot spot, next time you log in you should get moved to a random spot about 200m out of the area. This means that users will be unable to camp a single spot waiting for server hoppers, and it means that server hoppers will be forced to re-enter the area each time, thus risking their life to snipers in the area. Done and done.

I believe that if you log out the loot near you vanishes (or so I have read on a post about a week or so back). I have always assumed this was to stop people from sprinting with a train of zombies, get into a building, disconnect and wait a minute, then log back in and loot.Plus in the scenario you are proposing the person who was trying to loot the DMR is screwed anyway because he is looking at his new shiny weapon and the server hopper is looking at the back of his head through his ironsights. This is because for the loot to vanish (via my suggestion) you would have to log in relatively close to the loot spawn.
