Weapon Damage and Zombies

Still if your going to make them lame and take one bullet shot on any part of the body to down might as well make them get sick like player from doing dumb shit like standing in the rain and die.

I'd like to see a bell curve based around player stats and health. Some stronger and some weaker, all immune to pain, illness, and fatigue(once added). No negative reactions or hinderance due to moderate injuries, only lethal/mortal wounds. I don't really think anyone is advocating 1 shot any location kills, and if they are, well...I highly doubt zombies will be anywhere near that pathetic.

No no, we're talking one shot to the head and if that should be the only way to kill them or if multiple chest wounds would do it.

Having them die from only headshots is the only way to make them threatening. We'll never see 10,000+ zombies in Chernarus so having the 7-8 roaming in a town being only prone to headshot kills then it'd make you think twice about going down there as you normally would. 

 

The zombies in Dayz are a joke and have been since their inclusion, it's time they were changed to make the game a proper zombie game and less of a loud annoying nuisance which they are right now and always will be.

True but, and I'm playing devil's advocate, in the mod we had dozens of zeds swarming us if we made the slightest of sounds. The zeds were fast and vicious.

 

When they behave as they did in mod, I'd imagine headshots only being quite difficult and more often than not people would die to zeds rather than players.

 

(not being devil's advocate...I'm totally down with fast, violent, headshot only zeds :))

Seems like an even split for options 1 and 3 and an overwhelming majority in favor of firearms headshots.

 

Got some good numbers for this poll. Any other suggestions or ideas?

 

Should bladed weapons be one-two hit kills? How many hits would you imagine for blunt objects?

Any firearm caliber would be sufficient to penetrate a skull, as per analyzed in Max Brooks's Zombie Survival Guide.

A blade penetrating the skull can kill as well as a blunt crushing it. I also feel that weapon condition should affect damage. (If it does already, my apologies, I can't tell) A badly damaged dull knife would take more to kill than a sharp new one, while a cracked bat breaking on swing would lose some force behind it. Badly damaged melees, and even just damaged provided we can repair them with duct tape or something, should do less damage than pristine or worn.

Lastly, body shots on infected should also be able to kill, albeit not as easily as a headshot. I feel it should be difficult to body shot kill but not impossible. Dismemberment if possible would be cool too.
