KOS and how it might relate to the DayZ Sim.

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am a fairly new player and I would like to say I love this game. However after only a few hours of play the KOS and the state of where the game play is may coincide with one another. In a post-apocalyptic world as we see in DayZ I would say we are at the stage of survival mode since no one is banding together to forum a militia or some type of group to bring order and control back to this word (due in fact to we can't build bases yet or fortify positions as what would happen after the survival stage of the post-apocalyptic world.) survival stage is where humans will and would do things that they never thought they would ever be able to due. So if it comes down to them or you it depends of their journey before they come across you in most case but let's face it there are some out there that are twisted to start with in the lack of some short of order they are free to do as they want. Those twisted ones aside, the player will act upon the nature of his environment this game is a survival game of when you die you die that's it so players are going to take a lot more into consideration when they come across you. So depending on what they have been though might affect their actions against you. With that being said let me say this," THIS IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD WHERE HUMANS ARE AN ENDANGERED SPIECES WHY THE F ARE WE KILLING EACH OTHER!!!." As the state of the game moves forward and more things are added and bases are built, (farming I hope), and technology is brought back into the world KOS may become a much more random act then it is now. Soon it will be more about what can you help me with then what do you have in your pack..

Just my thoughts I am really enjoying this game.

This has to be KoS thread number 1 million. Gratz.

This has become redundant reply number 600 million. Gratz.

The guy is expressing his opinion, stfu or gtfo.

(Anywho, back to OP)

That's a decent outlook on it. Most of us have given up hope that the base dayz player will suddenly, or even eventually stop KOS'ing. it's nice to see someone still reaching for the stars, in that respect.

Allow me to tell you the outlook i have on this. During the mod, the Hero/Bandit system was pretty cool, a survivor could successfully judge a person based purely on what he looked like. This was fine, and worked well, except people liked the Balaclava (and it required effort to get Hero Status) which required them to murder, just about anything. This forced a LOT of KOS, just to change your looks. Now a little later in the mod, of group of kids (assuming) discovered a way to inject scripts into the game, and worse than that, they let a literal CRAP-TON of people get ahold of it, for free. So now, there's people running around with the ability to see other players locations, and spawn in any kind of gear in the game, (sometimes not even gear from the mod, but straight ArmA 2.)

So now there's a bunch of nine year olds, running around wreaking Havoc on the mod, (for lack of parental attention i've always assumed.) running around all over, killing every person they see. and this kind of mentality spread, like herpes at a dirty public bathroom in L.A.. Even (most) legitimate players would KOS, mainly for the fear of being KOS'd. People were hoping that this kind of thing would stop, with the release of the standalone, and all the thing you could do, and all the harm you can do to their gear. and to be honest, it's kind of worked so far. BUT there's still a very VERY large playerbase with the mindset of "oh, i'm going to kill him, just because he's a player." and not "he has better gear, let's hold him up, and if he doesn't cooperate, kill him." I don't see this changing anytime soon, unless there was a penalty to the player himself. because right now, if this guy killed somebody, and lets say ruined that can of beans he had, is he going to get sad? no, he's going to talk shit, and walk into the next room, find two soda's and a can of tuna. Now, if there was a penalty to player killing in general, Lets for example use Nethers system, players that have murdered somebody else, attract more Nether creatures to the blood on the players hands. That, that would be pretty handy for stopping the KOS'ing IF zombies were an actual threat, like hordes of zombies. Until then, the mindset of "Fuck it, kill him because he's there." will be dominant on DayZ.

That is my view on the predicament, anyway.  ^_^

I believe the intended effect was to point out that this could've been posted to another one of those threads rather than starting a new thread about what's ultimately the same exact thing.

AS far as this comment goes meh... moving on. While I can see the bros and cons of hero/bandit system there will always be a way to abuse the system however if the zombies are more of a threat and thus the more players die to say murder then that old body turns into a zombie or maybe zombies could be attracted to the smell of fresh blood thus making it a higher risk to players to kill one another. Or we could even go the route of zombies will run towards sounds and thus you don't shoot unless you have to kind of thing. Right now there is no real threat other then players so I can see why players aren't banding together and so on. The way I am playing right now is if I see someone or even think I see someone I go the other way go to places that I know players don't really go to. We all know they are at military bases and the air strips and along coast killing the new spawns. So I run inland as fast as possible and stay away from the bases and air strips. Since I have done this I have been left a lone. Nut I guess rule of thumb would be if you do have to interact with someone try to have the upper hand and instead of holding them up why not try to trade stuff if you can. I always walk around with more then I need and ammo that doesn't got to the gun I am using. I have alrdy had 2 trades that went of with out any issues.

" THIS IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC WORLD WHERE HUMANS ARE AN ENDANGERED SPIECES WHY THE F ARE WE KILLING EACH OTHER!!!."

Because everyone knows that they're safely sitting behind a screen in a comfortable chair playing a GAME. You can't play fully immersed if other people in the game don't cooperate.

Besides in a post-apocalyptic world most of time surviving only delays the inevitable. Very few groups make it.

You have a point there however most people would die of sickness, dysentery, wounds/injuries, starvation, dehydration, ect.. Those would make up the greater numbers besides those that fail to the zombies outbreak, those dyeing to others would be a smaller number but then a 15% of 10 mill really isn't small lol. Like you said there are those who will play this the way they want and wont immerse themselves into the game and that's fine to each there own. I am hopeful that as more and more is added the KOS will start to go down. I still have not KoS and will do my best not to.

Since there are no repercussions for killing other players, people will kill you for whatever reason they see fit. Unfortunately that's the way the game is played until/if a system of sorts is inplemented or zombies become more of a threat forcing team work.

The way I avoid this type of play (since I'm fairly new to DayZ) is with lower populated servers. I've found that less populated servers attract new players and usually newer players are more interested in learning the mechanics before immersing themselves. Thus, so far I have not been killed on sight (yet) and I've run into a few dozen players over my 20ish hours played. Now that I have a handle on the game, I'm currently fully geared and exploring the country side.

Just don't get attached to your gear and things will become easier.
