Falling damage ruins items?

Ran up the stairs in a barn and at the top it broke my legs, clever old me had made a splint earlier so no problems with random leg break.  Wait a minute, all the gear in my trousers is now ruined now this is a problem.  Has this happened to anyone else?

Happened to me, imagine it, if you fell off a building in real life, which was quite high, and you had your phone in your pocket, it would break

Just make sure to tell your friends those are beans dripping down your legs and that you didn't crap yourself.

Yeah I see the point of the feature, but this was running upstairs and it was my magnum, speedloader and can opener that broke.  Very sturdy items for a fall at the top of stairs.
