Jumped off the factory 4 times then tried a crane and a silo. I think I might be spiderman or something.

Try a server where you have really good ping if you are truly trying to kill yourself. You could be lagging and lag tends to save people from falling,

I've also survived very tall jumps, like on top of a crane... and I've also died off 4 foot drops...

That is probably the reason, there are no aus servers for the beta

Bull-f*cking-sh*t. I regularly play on servers where i have 1000 ping (not a typo, satellite internet sucks for ping) and it causes me to run off buildings more, not help me survive the fall.

 

I once lagged almost off the edge of a roof, i was just on the edge and was geared, as soon as i tried to turn around and vault to the middle of the roof i fell. I spent 1 second going "Am i dead, am I dead? I guess not because i'm not seeing the screen" once that second was up the "You are dead" screen popped up.

No, pre-alpha is what I played before you got the game on steam ;).

Are you in the experimental branch? The fall damage in that has  been disabled to avoid some "ladder" or "stair" bugs.
