The only way base building will workout

Recommended Posts

This is my opinion on how base building should workout in DayZ.

First of all, the type of base building everyone wants is the epoch style build a floor and walls right. Well I personally think that won't play out right. I think that the only basebuilding should be boarding up windows, placing barbed wire or sandbags, and storing items in tents and crates.

Remember this is an opinion, don't be offended if I insult your idea or opinion. What I don't want to see is the epoch style locked chests with 14 Dmrs and mk48s. I'd like to see tents and crates that aren't lockable with like 4 to 10 slots. Also NO to building structures. I don't want players to be able to change the map with their own custom buildings

I don't think we'll see above ground base building like in Epoch. I think Rocket is thinking more along the lines of underground stash points/shelters kinda like in The Road.

I very highly doubt that Rocket approves of 'locking' things in-game while you're away and on top of that the idea of building a house in an area full of unnocupied towns, villages and even a couple of cities is just downright silly...

Not to mention the amount of clutter there would be on the map once we're running 100 player servers.

You think this will still happen? I thought objects were limited on servers, so more stuff and more layers would slow down the experience? The map is hell with 30 players let alone 100.

Yes, I think the player count will be ramped up dramatically once everything is better optimised (server side).

I think the best way this could workout would be to barricade and fortify not-essential buildings, creating underground hideouts and building rustic structures on the world map. Maybe not being persistent across all servers, and giving a notice when you join a server that has another user created structure on the place you used to had yours so you could change the servers...

Anyway, I'll just grab some tents and wire fence and go to the woods with my bike and survive the zombies

Hmmm I need to find it.. But I do recall Rocket saying something about clearing out areas of zombies and colonizing in those places.. I would think that means above ground.

www.pcgamesn.com/dayz-creator-dean-hall-talks-humanity-barricades-damaged-weapons-and-all-sorts-other-stuff

"Colonisation will be possible, enabling players to wipe out zombies from an area and make it their own base without zombies spawning in the area and ruining their work. In keeping with the realistic tone though, zombies will still be able to wander into the cleared areas and squat there.

So if you’ve colonised an area, how do you keep the zombies out? Another question helped provide the answer: Will there be barricades? “We’re developing a system, it’s not 100% confirmed yet,” explained Hall “But you can gather resources from areas like trees and rocks and stones. You can also pick up items in the world with your hands, walk around with those items and drop them down. So you’ll be able to use those items to make barricades.” He made it clear that the system isn’t complete yet, but it’s definitely something they hope will make it into the game. Unfortunately barricades don’t extend to boarding up windows and doors; Hall said the idea of it made his lead artist “cringe”. "

So yes to above ground bases(colonies even), no to boarded up windows and doors.

My only issue would be, how do you stop someone from logging out next to your barricade, jump in another server and move 10 feet inward, log back into your server and be inside the barricade?
