Can you have more than 1 toon at a time

Just want to know if you can have more than one toon, bc somtimes i go onto a server and it makes me start over, if i do that and go back to my old server will my other guy be there or can you only have one?

Hardcore servers and regular servers have separate hives, so separate characters on each hive

experimental servers also have a different hive, and so do their hard and regular versions, in total you can have 4 toons, but none of them can join the same server

The alpha can also take everything it gave you in exchange for only a flashlight and a fresh outlook without reason or justification.  Those are the dues that must be paid.

Yeah one on hardcore and one on regular. Also i know this is being picky but "toon"? Seriously? This always annoyed me and i dont know why.
