pacific_coast 632 Posted February 2, 2014 THE ULTIMATE SQUAD FORMATION THREAD mine goes like this as of now: pointman/designated bambi - wears no gear/very little- runs around like an idiot to spot targets and draw out bandits- doesn't matter if he dies he is the disposable one- calls out loot and open doors and signs of others- uses global chat to lure/scare off- takes out the zeds for the team with axe sniper/spotter - hangs back in overwatch postion- provides area cover and maintains the exit path out of danger- uses mosin with long range scope + supressor- uses night vision at night (when in game)- this guy keeps you informed and will proide covering fire when you need to gtfo- keeps the assorted rare loots so if the squad is wiped out, he can get away with it the fridge/chef - basically hold all the food and cooking supplies- keep yourself alive cause you feed the squad!- carries cooking pot/can opener/gas stove/water and food items- look out for heath and saftey of the squad- use largest backpack and hang back duing the looting until it is safe medic/wateland doctor - carry all the meds- you are the walking blood bank- wear the surgical mask for extra baller effects- epis and defibs on you as well as syringes with antibiotics- quarantine and care for sick squadmates- keep yourself alive: dead medics heal nobody radio man/map boy - keep the others on point- the map is burned into your memory- you carry the compass and map/gps and other assorted loots- know the way in and out and communitcate with the team spotter/sniper- coordinate with pointman/bambi and map out the area- find cover and vantage points for the squad- perpetually "in the middle" between the pointman and the sniper the armory/ammo box - you carry the m4/sks and shoot on orders- postioned between the two other support classes- all your inventory is ammo boxes and magazines- carry extra guns and keep the group stocked up- proivde covering fire in battle- you are "the backup/cavalry"- smoke grenades and flares to distract and corral/flank stack the group as you want (diamond/staggered line) but keep your spacing to 15-20 m apart and talk to each other... you will live and form good squad survival skills. i like to be the armory class myself when team survivingi usually have a box for 7.52 a box for 5.56 and another for .357 and .45m4 in-hand/magnum in vest/mosin on backtwo medkits and two cases with canteens and rice and a third for my compass and can opener and booksthat leaves my armory character with about 10 or so free inventory slots after the mags and pistols i carry i provide mid/front cover and slight overwatch during a looting i only play with two other people right now so one is basically a medic/map boy and the other is a sniper/bambi hybrid thoughts and suggestions welcome(NO I DONT WANT CLASSES TO BE A FEATURE OR SOLO PLAY TO DISSAPEAR)
Fear The Amish 40 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) i always perfered the Triad approach.... Overwatch - This guy when your raiding has the long range sight and some form of sniper rifle posted up on a hill with plenty of vision. Needs to be in place for a few minutes before entry. His job is simple call out persons/locations of interest. Should never focus on one spot and needs to constantly have his eyes open. uses a mosin. CQB - Equiped with CQB weapon and is used for first entry during sweep/clear. In SA goes in with a pistol/shotgun. Mid range - Mid range weapon backs up CQB on sweep clear starts out covering alternate fields of fire while CQB is breeching. In SA goes in with an M4. Everyone carries a little bit of everything but anything key to the groups survival sticks with overwatch. Also anything besides guns/ammo that can be carried is left with Overwatch when doing a sweep of a town (to give the others more space for looting). musketeer 33 Posted February 2, 2014 I would find having to play a specific "class" to be boring. The only way I would really define a class in a group is by what weapon you use. When I play in a group/in a pair we usually take different guns so we're more effective is more situations.
pacific_coast 632 Posted February 2, 2014 in the mod a triad works great, but im having trouble keeping enough "essential items" on one character overwatch is great and all, but someones gotta shlep a lot of gear. designated medics and fridges combined with a sniper would be a way to keep it low man and less exposed
SolidOwlPL 37 Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, the "bambi" will most likely get you killed but good luck with your idea.

(WHEN VECHICLES/REPAIRS/CRAFTING ARE IMPLEMENTED, a new class would be needed) the mechanic/repairman - carries tools and crafting items- carries extra gasoline and spare parts- drives the vehichle so the maintainance is more of a priority- keep everyones guns and clothing and eqiupment and vhecihles repaired and functioning
pacific_coast 632 Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, the "bambi" will most likely get you killed but good luck with your idea.nah man, soooooo many people will fire blindly or attempt to corner or shake down a bambi, often in the middle of the opengiving themselves away or gathing their ENTIRE SQUAD to the bambi just to be killed by my team that was in voice chat with bambi and only 30m away, barely in cover. doing this in the coastal towns like C and E is hilariously effective

If everyone has stuff that they need, it means that if one of them dies and all the stuff gets ruined it's less of a loss. If you think about it mathematically, it's far more effective for each person to carry what they need, as well as carrying guns.
pacific_coast 632 Posted February 2, 2014 case in point: the one bambi bandit killer running through electro blasting "what is love" on voice coms resulted in so many dead camping 3pp:on bandits it was epic.watching a badit realise he cant hit a moving, loud, flashing target in the open and has to close the gap only to miss again be countered and either sniped or knocked out = EPICALLY PRICELESS

DeatHTaX 1217 Posted February 3, 2014 This is a flawed strategy as all you need is one or two essential team members to go down and the rest will soon follow or have a very difficult time surviving (i.e. vulnerable as f**k) specialized roles in this game are mainly a detriment :/
aeoliana 22 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) This would almost be cool if you weren't metagaming with the bambi. If the idea is realism you don't include a disposable member in your squad. *edit* plus talking in global is kind of obnoxious Edited February 3, 2014 by aeoliana
