Pralco's story

In the wee hours of the Chernarussian morning, I was exploring  the city of Elektrozavodsk and its surrounding industrial area  when I came upon a player with a fire axe that was being chased by zombies.

I observed him in secret from behind a bunch of torn up concrete walls, and as I was making up my mind whether or not  to go chop him up with my own fire axe, I heard a gunshot and saw the message "Pralco was killed" show up on my screen.

Instantly, I ducked for cover behind my hapless pile of barriers, but after waiting for a minute or two I figured the coast was clear to take a peek and see if I couldn't find the killer.

As I was looking around the area, I saw Pralco in side chat saying that it was his first death in DayZ, and that he had been carrying a ton of supplies including a blood bag, some food, and a Czech backpack, and for some reason this galvanized me further to find and kill the killer, who Pralco named as "Revenge".

I tore my eyes away from side chat just in time to see a horde of zombies following a single figure in a ghillie suit,

a menacing silhouette that I could only assume belonged to "Revenge". As I saw him running towards me with what looked to be a sniper rifle,

I bolted in the other direction yelling out, "SERPENTINE, SERPENTINE!" into Direct Comms in order to throw his aim off or something to that effect.

I was ready with my fire axe as "Revenge" rounded the corner with his sniper at the ready and a trail of zombies behind him, and I started swinging like a madman until I saw his broken corpse fall to the ground.

Just as I was about to loot the fully geared bambi killer, his body along with all of his gear just disappeared in the blink of an eye, and I was left with only the grim satisfaction that justice had been served.

As I was about to loot Pralco's corpse, I saw another survivor run past me with a trail of zombies similar to that of Revenge's.

On a gut instinct, I started typing "Pralco?" "Pralco?" into direct chat in the hopes that this newcomer was indeed the reborn spirit of the corpse I was looting.

"That is I" he said, as I started to cleave the zombies that were chasing him to pieces. I sustained a few scratches from the sprinting dead, so when Pralco thanked me for saving him, I told him that he could repay me by giving me the blood transfusion that I had picked off his corpse seconds before.

Pralco replied in the positive, and before long I had trusted him with the M1911 pistol that I had also found on his corpse as well as a bunch of food and drink from his backpack so he could sustain himself in the future.

Since his dead body HAD supplied me with a lot of gear, including a Lee "Church Bell" Enfield with 5 full magazines, I offered to take him along with me to loot the rest of Elektro.

As my newfound partner and I headed toward the first fire station in Elektro, I was able to distinguish the figure of a player at the top level of the fire station. He was surrounded by green and red smoke, most likely from smoke grenades

he had thrown to cover his advance up the fire station tower, and so I hastily decided to light him up like a Christmas Tree. Pralco and I moved out of the open and into the fire station, and we headed up to where I had spotted the player.

Pralco found an M16A2 with a grenade launcher attachment on the corpse, who I found out to be a player called "North", and as we exited the fire station, Pralco told me, "Nice shot, but what if he had been friendly?"

Surprised by his morality, but quite unable to tell him that I was just a cold hearted killer, I said " Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't, but I'm not going to take any chances." Pralco was quiet for a while after this, perhaps contemplating what I said

and making a judgment about me, or perhaps silently soaking in what I had told him, but for the next five minutes we looted the church and the grocery store in complete and utter silence.

As we came upon the second fire station in Elektro, I sprinted ahead of Pralco in order to get across an open field that left us completely and utterly exposed to possible snipers on a nearby hill overlooking our position.

Unfortunately, Pralco seemed to have lost me in the confusion and entered the fire station alone with nothing but an empty M16 to help him. As I circled the fire station to look for Pralco, I heard a voice coming from somewhere near me.

As I turned my head to figure out where the voice was coming from, I heard "Drop the gun right now" and instantly froze. I slowly dropped my gun and backed away from it, but as the speaker kept on saying "Drop the gun," I quickly figured out he wasn't talking to me.

I picked my gun back up and continued to circle the fire station until I came upon the sight of two fire station doors that were wide open, and my accomplice Pralco being held up by a man with a submachine gun that was saying "I'm looking for the man that murdered me earlier close to here. Drop the gun and I won't hurt you."

I immediately open fire with my Lee Enfield, dropping my would be killer with two rounds straight to the chest. Pralco ran up to me in utter disbelief, exclaiming "Oh my god, that was just like from the movies!  I really thought I was going to die right there!"

I responded to Pralco by saying," Well, we got the jump on him, and that's all that counts."

I quickly checked the body and figured out that it was North, the guy from the other fire station that I had killed a few minutes prior. We looted North's body and we even managed to find a few STANAG magazines for Pralco's  M16, but the fire station was otherwise empty.

Sensing that our journey together was coming to a close, I solemnly said goodbye to Pralco. "That's everything there is to loot here in Elektro," I said.

"Are you going to kill me now?" Pralco then asked me, but I merely shook my head and replied, "Nah, we're cool." I wished him good luck and I went on my merry way, jubilant about how well my encounter with this mere stranger turned out.

Who knows? Maybe Pralco will become someone else's hero someday, due in part to this first interaction with another survivor of the apocalypse.
