Better than Sidechat

Recommended Posts

I have always hated the idea of a Sidechat in Day Z. It does not feel authentic and is extremely lame. Something that would make more sense, is to use something like a CB radio that a Cop or Trucker would have to pick up on people wanting to talk to people outside of their immediate vicinity. This might have a use or none at all, but It is a much better idea than a global chat that everyone is apart of. This would also come with the stipulation that over 90% of the world will most likely not hear you and it will most likely be that one guy standing by a radio that catches your voice while walking by. This might not even be possible to do within the mod, and they certainly have better things to worry about. If it is something that isn't a pain to add, I would think this would be a better solution to people crying that their needs to be global chat when they have a question or run into a problem.

Any thoughts or addons?

I think you should be able to turn radio on / off, thus enabling/disabling global chat.

This reminds me of some of the cool stuff seen in Zombie Flicks. Ex. Broken Radio, Static. Being able to hear someone but not talk back. It could be picked up by either people willing to help or bandits ready to kill. Overall it would be alot more realistic than a sidechat.
