Hive synchronized weather system

Recommended Posts

Hey community,

I posted the following on reddit yesterday:

I just thougth about a hive synchronized weather day night system. I think it would be great if everey server on the same hive had the same weather conditions and time. Gameplay wise this would strongly support the survival aspect of the game e.g. if the temperature drops, players have to deal with the conditions given and cant just change to a server with warmer temperature.

This should also be the case for time. I think a day/night cycle of for example 8 hours would be pretty good. The cycle should also shift from day to day of lets say one hour so people who can only play on a certain time are not forced to play night only.

UPDATE Based on the feedback from comments, i think these points are important to make weather a fun experience:

  • asynchronous day/night cycle (e.g 7 hours) so everyone in different timezones could experience both day and night
  • hardcore only, weather and time are only synched on official hive hardcore servers so the "casual" part of the community isn´t affected
  • option for 24/7 day on private hives to support the different play styles
  • Of course to realize this devs have to make the night playable and interesting (light, things to do etc.)

Haven´t heard a statement on that from the devs yet. I think this is a very important thing for the whole dayz survival experience.

It would be nice to hear your opinion on that topic.
