Constant freezing, stuttering, crashing, ping spikes, client not responding...

Recommended Posts

I'm just lost for what to do any more with this, since I bought the game (the first day it came out, been anticipating this for ages after having played the mod since that also came out) it's been continuous problems and I don't know what's causing it or if it's actually a problem on my end.

Every now and again when trying to join servers, the game crashes, goes into the oh-so-fun "not responding" mode or just takes a long time to do anything. I've seen people say they're having problems that servers in the server list take a long time to come up, but it seems as though that doesn't happen for me. If I do actually get into a server before it crashes or whatever, then the game just stutters, freezes for at most 30 seconds at a time, then allows me to move for 3 or 4 seconds and then freezes again. Also very often get massive lag spikes despite not having internet connection issues in literally EVERY other game. I get the also-oh-so-fun "no message received for ** seconds" message with the yellow broken connection chain and when I bring up the task manager during this time it tells me that DayZ is not responding, as if I had such bad lag that the game is actually not responding or something.

Just seems to be a combination of unusual lag spikes with freezing and stuttering whilst in game and I cannot do anything. I've tried simply resetting my router, un-installing and re-installing the game, disabling things like firewall and antivirus, verifying integrity of game cache on Steam. Nothing thus far has fixed it or even made it in the slightest bit playable.

Is this a common problem? Is this a known problem? Is there a fix or something? This explanation sounds very generalised but I honestly have no idea what is causing this whether it's on my end, Battleye, just the games' servers experiencing problems.

Yep, same problem. In the server listing I see that all the servers I'm trying to join I supposedly will have a ping of 25 - 50 and after I join my ping is actually like that as soon as I can see anything, but then after 2 seconds of moving my ping just spikes to something ridiculous like 2000 and that's when the entire game just breaks.

Bump? Still can't play, I've tried empty servers and servers with 15+ people in it, as soon as I start moving, start typing, open my inventory, do anything I just desync, get the "no message received" message and then the game freezes for 30 seconds and goes into the "not responding" mode.

I might be very wrong here, but may i ask what kind of harddrive you are using?

After i changed my main harddrive to a new SSD, most of my problems went away. It seems like the HD can be a bit of a bottleneck. Of course i can be very wrong, but it is the only explanation i have, and a few other has said the same to me.

Me and my brother are both playing the SA, with somewhat similar PCs, the same fiber connection (not the same apartments, but in the same building) etc. The big difference is that his HD is a "normal" one, and mine is an SSD. He is not having crashes, but loads of ping-spikes, dsync and some freezing. On the other hand, my game is running really well, and i only get some dsync when aproaching cities etc, and it resolves itself faster then it appears...

I'm not using an SSD, just a regular 1Tb HD. But I'm not prepared to splash out on £60 for an SSD to fix this problem. I fail to see that this problem is caused by simply the HD.
