Random Map Generator

Recommended Posts

How practical is this?

When Dayz becomes standalone could one option be to have the above so the resources are random everytime you play in single player mode?

Having a random map would stop clans 'turtling' around the best areas of the map like they do now. Maybe the server restarts once a wekk or something and generates a completely new map.

I appreciate if this is completely impossible to do. I'm saying this because I played a lot of CIV 5 and one of the key interests that keeps the game from becoming boring is the random map generator.

If I placed a tent then the server restarts, where would it go?

Same goes for players that often play amongst different servers. Although it would help with the logging off one server then sneaking up to a sniper's location and logging back into the original server.

This makes me wonder if this is possible since I believe the map sets them or the engine does... I don't know too much on Arma2 or how it works, but what does interest me as how hackers have spawned buildings before... So this makes it questionable if it is possible to put in buildings into a map at random and consider them 'rare' areas?

I wouldn't vouch for this. If the maps were to go live, who knows what deformed piece of landscape people will make?

I think a completely random map is too much to ask. However a group of buildings, let's say some military tents like the one in stary sobor, should be giving random locations on each server. This way server hopping for military loot becomes harder and finding them is more rewarding. This should work in the same way like the UH-1Y choppers spawn (the grey unrepairable ones).

Positioning of these tents would be in some of the numerous fields near towns/barns. As it is now almost everyone knows where to find these type of buildings. Maybe even go as far as removing the barrack buildings. That plus random tent placement as described above could potentially eliminate the tedious hopping and camping.

It's already at the stage where all the good things (up north) are protected by gangs of pk's which I suppose, is actually what would happen ironically.
