Guns and their individual parts

Recommended Posts

hey there survivors, it's rydekk here.

When i pick up a gun, i always check the condition. If it's worn, prestine, damaged, badly damaged.

Depending on the state, the gun performs different. Now here's my suggestion.

"What makes a gun "badly damaged" and what is it?"

Example, you pick up a gun. Let's say a mosin. But it says it's badly damaged.

You can just throw away the gun because it's virtually useless to kill anybody from any distance.

But what if we would be able to replace if not repair the damaged parts in a gun?

An example;

I picked up an M4. I checked the gun and i noticed the barrel of the gun is cracked. I just happened to find a barrel for an M4 in good condition. if i could just dismantle the gun, replace the bad barrel with the good one. And i would be able to have an M4 in good condition.

Each part would have a role, and when damaged impair the gun in a way

Example, a badly damaged firing pin could prevent a gun from firing. A bad barrel would reduce accuracy or crack the barrel entirely. rendering the gun competely useless. A magazine clip, holding up your inserted magazine that is damaged could unvoluntarely release your magazine. a damaged chamber could result in the gun blowing up in your face.

Here's a list of weapons and their parts

.137

------

Firing pin

.45

------

inner barrel

Firing pin

Magazine clip ( the mechanisme that keeps your magazine chambered)

chamber

M4

------

Barrel

Firing pin

Magazine clip

Chamber

shoulder stock ( when damaged, results in more kickback. making accurate shots difficult when firing automatic)

Mosin

--------

Barrel

Firing pin

Magazine clip

Chamber

Shotgun

---------

Firing pin

barrel

Also guns would need upkeep. Example, you need to clean your guns from time to time. clogged guns adds up to the wear of a gun. damaging parts or completely rendering a gun useless when trying to fire until it's cleaned.

What do you think?

some guns are already composed of 7-8 modules, are you suggesting further subdividing it? nope. I would go for a more basic system that you could "salvage" a gun for parts, and if those parts are of an equal or better condition to your gun that you can combine the parts and the gun to increase your weapons quality level by one. then again, the cleaning kits might have that very purpose, that is when they get it to work.

I want to subdividing it for a couple of reasons.

it gives a gun more value over time when you find all the parts.

now a gun is just "badly damaged" you can't do much more with that.

It actually gives you some time off trying to get a gun to work instead of finding a gun and immediatly start blasting.

Your idea is... well, basic. But the game won't be as basic when it's out of beta. So it's good and simple for now. Perhaps for Alpha/beta. but this idea would be suitable for when it's fully released and good to go.

And the modules you reffer to. Are just modules that improve your gun. The core elements of your gun remain the same. It's that what i want to introduce to the game.

couple of things wrong

What is an "inner barrel"

A firing pin hardly has any chance of ever getting damaged

In almost all autoloading firearms, the barrel and the chamber are one piece

What do you mean by magazine clip? Do you mean magazine latch or catch? If so, that also has hardly any chance of being damaged as well.

mosins have internal magazines
