Where do I find items

I just started playing yesterday and I can't really find anything some food and a crowbar. Still haven't found a backpack so any advice almost all the houses I go in are empty.

Get off the coast and head inland. Plenty of small towns there that no-one really goes to.

Or if your server has been wiped absolutely clean, to the point where you die of starvation etc, find one that has frequent restarts.

Since the latest patch at least two thirds of buildings now lay empty in most places, a lot of people will have you believe that the devs made 90 percent of buildings enter-able so that that could leave 2/3 of them empty. It is a bug or a test of some kind and i hear talk of a patch next week which should hopefully resolve this issue. Hang in there its not meant to be so bad for new people.

True, also, use the dayz database map.  Set it to only look for buildings with high yield. Guarantee you will start finding things.

It will be difficult at times because everyone hits these buildings, but its been the only way for me to live.
