Do shoes do anything at all?

Recommended Posts

Do they offer you additional protection or do I not even need them and they're just for looks?

I don't think they serve any real purpose at the moment beyond mere aesthetics. But in one of the dev diary videos they said that they intended to implement some features, among others that if you ran around in badly damaged footwear you would eventually injure your feet.

I think my second life, I picked up some badly damaged boots and after a while started getting "my feet hurt" messages (or something along those lines). I did a lot of running in rough terrain during that. But I can't be sure if my memory serves me right, since it was weeks ago... But as far as shoe model goes, there's absolutely no difference besides aesthetics.

its too early on, but i agree most likely later on they will have a purpose.

They're mostly aesthetic at the moment. However I did notice if I had some type of boots on my footsteps seemed to be a bit louder; More-so on metal and concrete surfaces in buildings.

Shoes gives protection to your feets. If you try to walk around without shoes your feets get hurted, also they could make you bleed if you don't find any shoes quickly, so they're useful. I don't know if in the future they'll add differences for the kind of shoes/boots etc. but right now it's important to have it just not to be wounded by walking on the ground.

I'm getting a lot of conflicting info. Some say you run faster with shoes, someone said you will start bleeding without them, (which I don't believe). Does anyone actually know whether there is a benefit at all to wearing shoes?

As of now, no... no benifits.

They keep your feet warm and its a socially acceptable thing to wear shoes. Barefoot is frowned upon.

But seriously, i think they protect your feet or will do when implemented properly. I also think different types allow you to run faster on different surfaces.
