Change zombie behavior - sounds

Recommended Posts

So, you throw a smoke grenade. Zombies attack it. Throw a flare, they slowly amble towards it. Fire? Same thing. Tin cans? Slowly move.

I propose changing the zombies reactions to stimulus. You can cause noise near a zombie, that they DO NOT CHASE. So why can I be on the other side of two walls and a zombie hears my footsteps, and he instantly agro's me? This destroys immersion. Zombies don't think. They react.

I suggest, that when a zombie hears something, they first turn towards it, and THEN move towards it. But no aggro. Zombies do not instantly sprint towards a sound and try to eat the sound.

But SIGHT is what zombies use to aggro. They see you, they attack you.

This way, you could increase their sensitivity to sound, have them amble towards sounds, but only attack when they catch SIGHT of a survivor. It would increase immersion and make the game less BS.

If I'm crouch-walking behind a zombie and I flit from one wall to another, crossing an open area of three metres, that zombie should not turn around and insta-aggro. Same with gunshots. It should attract them, but not aggro them.

It'd make it easier for noobs to get through cities, to an extent, and make zombies less...bullshit? I think the word is?

inb4 'carebear' or whatever related insult the masochistic assholes who man these forums can come up with.
