komadose 190 Posted January 25, 2014 Yupp like you mentioned... its a post-apocalyptic survival game so that means actually that the humanity is at the brink of extinction and you as person are one of those unlucky ones who has to survive this whole shit somehow... I think no one in the real world would try to kill people just for the fun or for their backpack when they would realize that those few people actually are the only sanctuary they have in all that chaos.. and they would try to cooperate, and to survive this shit together... the problem in this game is just that it doesn't have any way to prevent people from killing out of nonsense. The disease or the rest of the world does not oppose the real threat right now... and in future people will not try to see it that way too... they will just try to kill others mindlessly for their can of food or whatever... coz they have a sick mindset that this game is about PVP which actually isn't at all...main reason being; this is a game. entertainment. not real life. but yeah, they should make surviving a lot harder in it, so you would actually want to team up with people to have a better chance of surviving. as it stands, those zombies are not exactly a threat, and food and drinks are so easy to come by, that you don't even bother picking it all up. now when you are all geared up, you get bored since the environment doesn't offer any challenges. you might as well go hunt for other players. and yes, it's alpha, with very limited content in it. let's just wait and see what they will come up with. This is how I feel and I understand that its a game and even in real life there'd still be killers, but its like 80% of people killing other people. I've seen videos of guys just standing in a building and shooting everyone that comes in, and these are fresh spawns that have found a gun and just decided to start killing everyone as if thats the sole purpose of the game. I'm all for bandits and being shot at so they can have my stuff but these people don't even bother with the loot.

Zer0HD2 (DayZ) 40 Posted January 25, 2014 I don't get why people think that everyone in ballistic helmet, TTskO gear and a gasmask is a KoS kid (not bandit, that's a whole different thing). That is not KoS gear, it's just currently the best gear in the game. If you run without a helmet, you're a fucking idiot. I've lost count of how many times I've seen somebody with an M4 go down to a fresh spawn because he wasn't wearing a helmet and got punched in the head. The motorbike helmets stand out way too much to be useful, and some morons will assume anyone wearing that is a bandit anyway. TTskO gear is currently the best camo in the game. People who find it will wear it so they're harder to spot. Deal with it, or continue to run around in your red checked shirt and wonder why actual KoS kids shoot you. If they can't see you, they can't shoot you. As somebody said above, gasmasks will be incredibly useful when infections are implemented, and if you're not wearing one (or a respirator), you will probably get infections more often. Right now, they cover your face, which in case you can't tell, sort of sticks out when you're in a wooded area. Wearing a gas mask makes you harder to spot. In other words, if you shoot people on sight just because they're wearing that gear, you are just as bad as all the KoS kids. P.S. A bandit is not a KoS kid. I am a bandit, and I never kill people unless they shoot first, or they kill a fresh spawn/defenseless player. It just means we hold people up, take some useful gear, but not enough to fuck them over, leave them some food and water if we have spare, and leave.
Otis.Driftwood 204 Posted January 25, 2014 I like the idea, but what would stop bandits to put on the same clothes and shoot you once you think he's friendly? The way to prevent this is to disable getting all weapons to your slots and your back when you get UN suit. The only weapon he can have are fists :)
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 25, 2014 Thanks to any posters actually clarifying that gas mask / mil gear doesn't necessarily mean KOS kiddie every time, because that's not the case. Not always.
RebelCowboySnB 20 Posted January 25, 2014 In real life the UN are peacekeepers lol... I will shoot on site of any blue helmets...
StetsonCarson 0 Posted January 28, 2014 On the topic of gas masks... Having spent 8 years on the Army as a 74D (CBRN Specialist) dealing with these horrendous pieces of crap, I can with 100% certainty tell you that with all the running, climbing, jumping, shooting you're doing in this game, a protective mask is the last thing you're gonna want on your face... lol. For those that have never had the pleasure of wearing one of these things, let me break it down for you... Pros:Sometimes could possibly keep out airborne contaminants Cons: Like breathing through a straw that is partially blocked with cementFogging of eyepieces happens early and oftenInability to aim down the sights on any weapon with a stock Plus, the promasks in this game don't even have filters, so, unless there's some kind of new filter-less miracle version, they're not even going to keep anything out of your system. haha Just my two cents. Anyone out there wanna confirm/dispute these facts?
Combine (DayZ) 247 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) I can't really confirm them out of my own experience, but I've seen a few documentations where recruits had to go prone and crawl or just run with masks. And by the looks of it, it IS freaking hard / exhausting / different after a short time. It's also logical, if you think about it. Air intake is less or slower as the stuff has to run through a filter first. And also, the rest is blocked as to block contaminants. Not exactly 'fresh air' around the face, if you get what I mean. Filtered, but perhaps not so "fresh" as without. Also, I imagine similar problems for those even wearing a full suit. It's like a full body condom, I guess. Must not be easy, considering the skin does also process oxygen to some extend. Which is why people with certain types of full body painting can get problems after a short time. But hey, the "realism argument" doesn't go as far as 100% in most games anyway. Some visual drawback might still be nice for gas masks in the actual game though, perhaps. For the benefit of fresh air and / or a certain degree of face protection. Edited January 28, 2014 by Combine
janol 65 Posted January 28, 2014 Well, bandits and trolls aside, I think I am going to follow OP's idea for starters. Even if few bandits take on the fashion, not all of them will, and at the same time occasional player or two might just decide not to shoot me. Thats better than nothing, you know.
